After experiencing the mysterious effects of Thaddeus Brown’s ashes, Shilo uses his newfound abilities to dig into the origin of N’Vir Free and her powerful minions known as the Core. But the Miracle mantle bears many secrets and leads Shilo and his allies to new faces. But are they loyal to the Free name? The deadly truth Shilo uncovers could spell catastrophe for the galaxy and forever destroy the legacy of Mister Miracle.

This is a trippy book and while I haven’t the foggiest of clues as to which earth this is it really doesn’t matter all that much because it’s amazing. The daughter of Barda and Scott Free N’Vir, which is a spectacular play on words if you ask me, has set her sights on Shilo who wears the mantle of Mister Miracle thinking he is unworthy of the name. She of course being his daughter gets to decide this on her own and won’t listen to reason making her something of a psychopath if you really want my opinion. It does, however, make for some compelling reading that’s for darn sure.

I am a huge fan of the way that this is being told. The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is presented exceptionally well. The character development we see through the dialogue, the character interaction as well as how they act and react to the situations and circumstances which they encounter continues to flesh these characters out further and further. The pacing is superb and as it takes us through the pages revealing more and more we are left to wonder just what this is really all about, by that I mean N’Vir’s problem.

I am enjoying the way that we see this being structured as well as how the layers within the story continue to grow, evolve and strengthen. The layers contain the characterisation, the plot twists & turns and so much more and whether they work with the main arc or swirls around it they add such great depth, dimension and complexity to the story. The way we see everything working together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how it moves the story forward is achieved amazingly well.

The interiors here are bloody amazing! The linework is truly outrageously amazing to see and how the varying weights and techniques are being utilised to create this level & quality of detail work that we see throughout the book just blows me away. How we see backgrounds to enhance and expand the moments while also working within the composition of the panels to bring out the depth perception, sense of scale and the overall sense of size and scope to the story. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show a masterful eye for storytelling. The colour work is brilliantly rendered. The various hues and tones within the colours being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work show a sensational eye for how colour works and how to maximise its effects.

There is a lot of stuff happening here and it all has this amazing flow to the way that it is being told. From Shilo and N’Vir, to his agent and the introduction to a familiar face all of these sections have their own roles to play and yet manage to tie into the larger picture and it’s all done incredibly well. With plenty of action to go with this spectacular writing & characterisation with these absolutely stunning interiors brings Silo to life beautifully.
