Kotaro lives next-door, is an anime show on Netflix originally airing in Japan. To watch this one you have to allow yourself to suspend your disbelief. The show is about a four-year-old boy named Kotaro.H he loses his parents, therefore becoming an orphan. Kotaro finds his way to an eccentric apartment building where he is allowed to rent a room. Kotaro: lives next-door is a 10 episode series. In the show, as I watched, I began to think that the character of Kotaro, was mature for being a four-year-old in that Kotara was also an old soul, which means the same, same thing, having experienced past lives.

Kotaro is a little adult, he wears a shirt with a star and the word God, printed on it, which was never explained the reasons. Besides, Kotaro, three more other residents of the apartment complex participate in the episodes as characters contributing to the shows plot progression. Kotaro carries around a toy sword, like the one his favorite character in his favorite cartoon, also carries with him. He uses it when people cross boundaries that are not supposed to be crossed with him.

The residence of the building, take care of, and help little Kotaro. When he moves in, he meets a man who is out of work, Monja, artist, and creator. Apparently, the man is also the creator of Kotaro’s favorite cartoon. Once the two were watching the show, and the man came to realize that Kotaro actually watched the show and was copying everything the cartoons main character did to survive, and this is why Kotaro carried the sword.

Anime is a cool form of animation and the stories that the writers come up with for the Anime that is lucky to become a show are unique and unusual stories and I would even go so far as to say that they are innovative too and all of this to also say that Kotaro lives alone is one of those also.

If I’m being honest a show like this would never make it on American television than again maybe it would but it would never make it on networks aimed for children because parents groups would be in an uproar over the show.

The plot of the show is cute, adorable, heartwarming, and ultimately uplifting. The residents of the complex truly care for and look out for their little neighbor Kotaro. It lasted for one season if memory serves me correctly but it was a nice and a wholesome. I love watching anime in the original Japanese language even though I do not speak Japanese I don’t mind subtitles. I believe watching Anime in a dubbed language takes something away from it and that same can be said of other shows in other genres and languages as well.

The man who created the cartoon that helps Kotaro became his guardian as did a female resident in the same apartment complex as well.

There was one resident who claimed to be Kotaro’s father but since Kotaro knew better the boy quickly shut that bad man down. This show is also quirky and cute. In the show they all begin as individual strangers living in the same apartment complex but by the end they become a family and that is sweet and nice. Since there is no good plumbing in the complex in order for Kotaro to get daily hygiene his male guardian takes the boy to a neighborhood bathhouse where there are proper showers. Also Kotaro does go to school in the show like other children. I like Anime and manga shows that have interesting characters and stories and I am not disappointed.
