John J. York gives fans a health update

General Hospital fans you will recall that last week John J. York announced that he had something big to reveal to his followers about why he would be taking a brief hiatus from the show. Celebrating the Soaps is now reporting that the beloved veteran actor has shared what he has been dealing with and it's pretty serious. York has been battling multiple health issues since December 2022. He has been bravely fighting 2 blood and bone marrow disorders while not missing a beat on GH.

York seemed upbeat in the video where he announced he has been diagnosed with Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and multiple smoldering myeloma.

The coexistence of both diseases are rare. It has been known that coexistence of multiple myeloma (MM) and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) may occur as a complication of treatment. Due to treatment with alkylating agents in multiple myeloma patients, myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) can be occur.

He has already endured 3 rounds of chemo and has had many bone marrow biopsies and he now needs a donor for a stem cell transplant. The actor is asking his fans to register at the Be the Match registry not only does he need assistance but because thousands of others are in the same situation.

Be the Match aims to save lives

The Be the Match site says someone is diagnosed with a blood disorder every 3 minutes. They also reveal that there is a cure for patients with blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma and other life-threatening diseases. .

Be The Match® is a community of donors, volunteers, health care professionals and researchers who deliver cures by helping patients get the life-saving marrow transplant they need. Our passion to save lives drives us to help more patients survive each year.

What's in store for Mac Scorpio

General Hospital tapes about 6 weeks in advance and York says he will be away from the soap for 3 or 4 months. This suggests that the actor's last scenes for now might be on the air sometime in November. York says he is closing in on a donor match or 4 months and this is not goodbye but only "So long" because he will return. He also thanked his fans for their support and prayers.

Mac is currently the acting police commissioner because Jordan Ashford stepped in as the Deputy Mayor while Laura Collins (Genie Francis) is out of town. Jordan had asked Marcus Taggert (Real' Andrews) to take over her former position but he has not been around since shortly after finding out that Trina Robinson ( Tabyana Ali) was not his biological daughter.

Fans are sending prayers and well wishes to York

There has been no news on how Mac will exit Port Charles or if the ABC soap will even acknowledge that he is not around. There have been times past where Mac was not seen and he was not even mentioned. Viewers will also be wondering whether or not Taggert return and will take over the job as commissioner. Unless it's already been written into the script it looks like fans will have to wait a bit longer for Mac to find out that Cody Bell (Josh Kelly) is his son.

Fans are wishing John J. York the best of luck and sending many prayers up for him. They are looking forward to his finding a donor match, and wishing him a speedy recovery, and a quick return to life in Port Charles. Be on the lookout for General Hospital updates related to York's medical progress and also for what will happen with his character Mack.
