Wait until you see these fashions House of Gucci has created.

House of Gucci opened its doors to theaters in 2021. Patricia Reggiani marries into the Gucci family. Her humble beginnings in the fashion industry unravel into the legacy of this family, triggering a reckless spiral of deceit, betrayal, and murder.

I have been looking forward to seeing House of Gucci ever since I saw the preview. Fashion is what this film is all about. Well-directed with eye-catching cinematography, House of Gucci was uneven in its storytelling.

Lady Gaga was snubbed from the Best Actress category at this year’s Oscars! In contrast to her performances in A Star is Born, she does a phenomenal job in a role that’s a total contrast to herself. Nobody gets in Patricia’s way. Gaga excelled in her emotional deliveries.

Gaga remained in her character for an entire year, speaking in an Italian accent. While Gaga was mesmerizing, however, I did hear that she didn’t do research prior to the filming. That could have been beneficial.

With each film I see him in, Adam Driver can pull off any role. Driver transforms himself from this sweet, awkward man into a sinister person. Watching this nuanced performance was inspiring to watch. The descent of his character into this menacing portrayal was believable. You can never trust anybody.

Gaga and Driver had electrifying chemistry. They did an incredible job with their relationship. I like how they worked off one another, assembling a bewitching dynamic.

House of Gucci was the ultimate acting challenge for some. I did not recognize Jared Leto at first. A lot of his performance is exaggerated, which arguably makes it better. Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons, Salma Hayek, Jack Huston, Alexia Murray, and Vincent Riotto do a terrific job in their roles.

The accents were messy. It was distracting whenever actors fell out of accents. From my own experience of being in plays, a lot of time is spent on configuring accents. More time should have been endured to practice accents.

House of Gucci was only nominated for makeup and hairstyles. Where’s the nomination for the costumes? That’s what this film is all about! All the costumes were designed by Janty Yates. All the dresses and outfits were gorgeous. While watching, I counted, and Lady Gaga wears about forty different outfits.

Ridley Scott excelled in the camera work. Scott accomplished the technical aspects of House of Gucci. To save time in the shooting schedule, Scott set up four-camera during takes. The atmosphere is the highlight. All the location spots in Italy were beautiful. There’s also a great operatic soundtrack.

That being said, House of Gucci is a flawed film. This film was more about performances, fashion, and style than the actual story. As beautiful as House of Gucci is to look at, it’s an uneven dramatic film.

The performances were the most exciting portion of the film. The story was uneven in some parts. Aspects like the family business were not developed fully. The script could have used another read to tighten up elements in the second half. It didn’t care to expand on the intriguing elements of the story, experimenting on acting and cinematography.

It was a little long. Some parts of the film could have been generated better. The film had individual stories which were fine, but I had a hard time on whose story it was supposed to be about. Sometimes the film was over the top and other times it was serious. The climax was rushed out.

House of Gucci is well-worth your watch, especially during awards season.
