Wally Kurth does double duty

Fans of the CBS soaps The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless are currently in a honeymoon phase. They are enjoying the trips down memory lane through the classic episodes but at some point reality will kick in. Timing is everything and if the daytime drama programs do not soon resume production there will be trouble. If viewers are not soon given new episodes, it's possible soap lovers will become restless. Daytime devotees could get bored watching past episodes on a daily basis, and desire something fresh. Time is ticking and viewers are getting further away from what was going on in the last original episodes of B& B and Y&R. It's difficult to keep up your momentum when so much time has gone by.

Decades ago, when nighttime soaps such as Dallas and Dynasty went on summer hiatus there were reruns of that particular season, until new episodes aired in the fall. Viewers were able to follow along because it was all related to the current year. The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful have been all over the place, showing reruns from the 1980s-the 2000's without there being any type of connection. Meanwhile, General Hospital and Days of Our Lives are turning up the drama for May sweeps with storylines that are riveting. This might just gain them some new viewers. DOOL tapes about 8 months in advance and it's not certain how many new episodes General Hospital has left, but both are still going on with the show.

Victor Kiriakis

It’s possible that some soap fans may find current action in real time more appealing than a blast from the past. A number of those who enjoy the CBS soaps may not have been watching long enough to remember the characters they are seeing in the classic episodes. This may cause them to have a hard time following along. Longtime viewers may soon tire of the older shows 5 days a week and begin seeking entertainment elsewhere. Nielson results for the last week in April indicate that the CBS soaps have higher ratings than the other two but realistically how long will this last? Those who watch daytime drama are loyal, but their faithfulness will be tested if the hiatus continues into the summer. If CBS viewers begin tuning in to NBC and ABC they will think they are seeing double because Wally Kurth continues to be on both soaps.

Kurth portrays Justin Kiriakis on Days and Edward Quartermaine II AKA Ned on GH. The soap vet has been doing this double duty for decades and at times can simultaneously be seen on both programs. Ned's grandparents in Port Charles were the beloved Edward and Lila Quartermaine. Justin's uncle in Salem, is the powerful Victor Kiriakis so Wally Kirth's characters are legends. Currently on Days, Abigail continues to have emotional issues and it's looking like she is hallucinating. Her behavior will continue to be erratic and her next target according to Soap Hub will be Kate who will not see the attack coming. Theories abound about why Abby is acting this way.

Edward and Lila Quartermaine

She could simply be losing her mind and having a breakdown, but what would be the reason? Spoilers suggest the Stefan Dimera look alike, AKA Jake is behind her behavior or is someone else drugging her, but who? Gabi is trying her best to solve the mystery behind the man who looks like her husband and will soon seek answers from Dr. Rolf. Will Utay reprising his role was good move for the NBC soap because a mad scientist is always in order. Hope will be alarmed that Ben has given Ciara an engagement ring and her daughter says yes. Hope's plate will be full trying to protect Cierra from the necktie killer.

On General Hospital the action is becoming more intense as Nelle and Michael battle it out in court for Wiley. Michael and Willow were married on Tuesday and Chase and Sasha are heartbroken. This is exactly what they wanted but it still hurts. Nelle overheard Brook Lynn accuse Julian of sabotaging Brad's car and almost killing Lucas. She also knows he had knowledge of the baby switch and kept it to himself. Nelle is planning to use this information to her benefit though it's not clear how this will be done. Sonny must make a decision about his dad who is no longer eating. He has to decide whether to have feeding tube inserted or just let nature take it's course. Brad and Obrecht are sitting in jail and fans are longing for circumstances to line up so both can be released and put the screws to Nelle.

Scott Clifton who portrays Liam on The Bold and the Beautiful was recently interviewed but had no idea when taping will begin. He said there had been a projected date of mid May but that time is already upon us. Be sure to check local listings regarding the schedule of your favorite daytime drama programs. They are often preempted for news related to the coronavirus. Be on the lookout for spoiler alerts and updates that indicate when the CBS soaps will resume taping. This will give the best idea of when fans can expect to see new episodes. Enjoy the original programming on Days of Our Lives and General Hospital because the month of May is going to be explosive.
