As of today, Pixar has released 23 films starting with Toy Story (1995) and the most recent being Soul (2020). Over the years, Pixar has brought us beloved characters like Mike Wazowski, Buzz Lightyear, and WALL-E. As they do, creative fans continue to make interesting fan theories that, if true, would change the narrative of these light hearted stories.

Although there are huge theories that describe every Pixar film being linked to one another, the ones listed here will just be theories from individual films.

Monster's Inc.

1. Sulley has been murdered

During Monster's Inc., Randall and Sulley have a discussion where Randall says:

"I heard humans skin monsters and make toilet covers out of their fur..."

In the 2012 short titled Partysaurus Rex about Rex from Toy Story, there is a shot that makes it seem like Randall was right.

This theory suggests that, instead of being a clever cameo, Pixar is suggesting that Sulley was, as Randall put it, skinned for his fur to be used as a toilet seat.

2. Boo is actually Violet from The Incredibles

This theory suggests their similar appearances could mean that Boo and Violet are the same person. There is a scene in Monster's Inc. where Sulley throws Boo through her door and slams it shut. This theory from medium.com explains that this was an early sign of her powers.

The movie reveals that Boo's name is Mary. However, it is hard to believe that she was named Violet before her parents saw the extent of her powers, similar to Dash. This theory suggests that her name was changed after relocating from the protection program and that they renamed her Violet after her violet colored powers.

3. Monstropolis is the afterlife for imaginary friends

This Redditor suggests that the monsters are actually forgotten imaginary friends.

In the film Inside Out, we saw Riley's beloved imaginary friend, Bing Bong, disappear due to becoming permanently forgotten. This theory proposes the idea that now Bing Bong will reside in Monstropolis.

This also means that the doors in Monster's Inc. are actually portals that cause the monsters to temporarily return to a child's mind so they can picture (and basically see) the monster, rather than the monster being physically in their bedrooms.

In short, these monsters that have a goal to scare children (until the end of the movie) and use the doors to get inside the heads of kids were once imaginary friends.

Toy Story

1. Toys are draining children of their joy

In order for the toys to be alive, this theory suggests that they get their energy from the joy of the kids that play with them. Digitalspy.com discusses the idea that Molly had gotten rid of Bo Peep because she found out that she was draining her of her joy and that Sid was mean to the toys because he was aware of this truth.

If these toys can die and lose consciousness due to the lack of playtime with children, the kids playing with them would never know and play with the toy's corpse. That's just... something weird to think about.

2. Wheezy was the true villain of Toy Story 2

At the beginning of Toy Story 2, a broken penguin toy named Wheezy gets brought outside to the yard sale. Woody goes out to save him and ends up getting snatched up by Al, who runs Al's Toy Barn. Al takes Woody to his collection of cowboy themed toys.

This theory suggests that this was planned by Wheezy, and he is the true villain of the movie.

Cbr.com describes how Wheezy was Andy's favorite toy for many months. Then, Wheezy was put on the top shelf and forgotten. During this time, he must have gotten very jealous of Woody as Woody became Andy's new favorite toy. And, if the previous theory is true, Wheezy would have been running low on his supply of human joy.

His jealousy fueled him to come up with a plan that would end with getting revenge on Woody. This theory is suggesting that Wheezy played on Woody's heroic tendencies. He must've gotten to the yard sale on purpose in order to get Woody out there to save him so Woody would get sold to a customer and brought to a new home.

3. The toys were never alive

This Redditor suggests that the toys were never alive and the movies were just stories created by Andy and Bonnie. Throughout his entire life, Andy had never caught the toys in the act. However, Sid did after only a few moments of interacting with them. Granted, Sid was being awful to the toys, but still. It is strange how Andy never caught the toys in the act.

When Andy or Bonnie lose their toys, instead of the toys going on their own adventure, this theorist is suggesting that those are adventures created by Andy or Bonnie of what happened in order for the toys to come back home. The Redditor goes more in depth of what this would be like for each Toy Story film.

WALL-E

1. BNL Starliners covered the planet in trash to get more customers

The movie shows that the trip into space was meant to be temporary, not permanent. However, it seems like the BNL starliners were certainly prepared for permanence in space.

The starliners were originally meant to be used for vacation. However, this theory suggests that the company was not getting enough guests and was not making enough money. Did BNL go to extreme measures of destroying the planet in order to force people onto their fancy cruisers?

It does seem like it. The starliners have the ability to create an unlimited food supply, which raises the question, why not use it on the planet rather than introducing that idea after the planet is destroyed? It is clear that when the starliner left, the planet was habitable. If it seemed like it was harder to find fresh food and the ship had this ability installed (as it had to have been manufactured on Earth by humans), why not use it to help the planet? It seems like just another way to get more customers on their ship.

2. WALL-E killed the other WALL-E robots

This Redditor offers the idea that, as the main character of the film was the first of these robots of gain sentience, realized that it would one day die and began killing the other WALL-E robots for fresh parts in case he needed replacements. With a supply of millions of dead robots, WALL-E virtually would have an unlimited supply of scrap parts that he could use for himself.

3. How WALL-E gained his memories back from his reboot

This is not so much a theory but an explanation to how WALL-E was able to retrieve his memories after EVE rebooted him. This Redditor says that they believe during the zap/kiss that caused WALL-E to remember EVE, EVE had opened a connection or transferred data to share her memories of WALL-E.

Perhaps that he doesn't have his own memories, but now his only memories are the ones that EVE had of him and gifted to him. Or, she was able to get data from his old hard drive and was able to install the data into the new one.
