Day Shift Review

A vampire movie with a lot of gore and comedy and an open tone.

I must say that the film before its release did not call my attention at all. I talked about this in the article Netflix movie releases in 2022. This was my evaluation:

“I hesitated to put it on. I don't trust this movie. Jamie Foxx is the main character. He plays a group man who leads a seemingly peaceful life. He in fact he is dedicated to hunting vampires.

The downside of the proposal is the comic tone. Foxx previously collaborated with Netflix on the current Project Power.

I won't be in a hurry to see you."

The fact is that as the days went by I came to a standstill for two main reasons: the first and most important is that it is produced by the guys from 87eleven, which gives the energy scenes extra quality. The second is that my idol Scott Adkins appears in a very small role, molded in the best set of the film.

And the movie meets Netflix standards, it's a movie to watch in the dark of August, it's funny and at the same time very peculiar, so it will quickly go to the drawer of oblivion. But Netflix has been producing like this for a few years now, and that shouldn't be new anymore.

We talked about a production of 100 million , which seems excessive to me for a film that was not designed by Netflix as one of its great releases. On top of that, this big budget is in the hands of a new director, JJ Perry . Well, in this sense, I have to say that the director more than delivers and gives us some very good fight choreography and some very good car chases.

Day Shift Review

The history? Jamie Foxx stars as Bud Jablonski, a hard-working father who works hard at his job cleaning pools in the San Fernando Valley. Although we soon realize that he is nothing more than a cover for his serious work: hunting and killing vampires as a member of an international syndicate of bloodsucking hunters.

While the set of tolerance against the elderly leech manages to draw the leech's choreography and movements, we soon see that the film is on the way to light comedy. Jablonski is about to lose his group because of the leveling between work and the group, so he needs to hunt vampires, as this will give him the money to keep his wife and his daughter from leaving.

Along the way we have characters like Seth ( David Franco ) who is the comic point of the film or the wasted Big John Elliott ( Snoop-Dog ) as a not-so-subtle vampire hunter when it comes to prostitution.

And in terms of energy, the highlight is the decoration in the house where there is a hive of vampires, thanks to Almighty that on this occasion the good Jablonski is accompanied by the crazy Nazarian Brothers, played by steve howey and acceptably scott adkins .

As a curiosity, highlight the persecution in the drainage channels of the San Fernando Valley. It is inspired by this other acquaintance:

Final evaluations.

Netflix is changing cinema. Almost all of his most recent films are cut from the same cloth, based on the renowned operation . What I'm talking about? We find ourselves more and more “prefabricated movies” , so to speak, at the pleasure of the consumer (and not at the pleasure of Netflix). What the company does is use an algorithmic formula to analyze the data and predict the tastes of the audience. The more the platform is used, the more data it obtains about favorite and non-favorite movies and series and hours of consumption.

But without going into conspiracy theories, Netflix goes a step further and has been creating prefabricated movies for several years, that is, creating content based on user preferences.

This is how we have spent the last few years, films that apparently have nothing to do with each other, but that in the end are very similar in editing, three or four energy scenarios and to complement some comedy scenes to relax the viewer. We are also talking about films that do not exceed a budget of 100 million (Red Alert s The Invisible Agent reached 200 million) and that on weekends always appear as not in number 1 of the Top Last.

In the end this gives us movies empty of soul and it's a shame as in the past a russian brothers movie with ryan gosling 's Chris Evans and with that budget would be a long movie and not a nice forgotten Netflix pastime.

After this speech I have to say that Day Shift is a fun movie, with no higher pretensions than to pass it acceptably . And when you finish watching it, go to that huge dressmaker's drawer that is the Netflix platform.
