Back in early August we got bombarded with news about a certain celebrity who wanted to portray Captain Marvel in the standalone film coming in 2019. That celebrity is MMA phenom, Ronda Rousey.

Ronda is probably best known for her baddassery in the ring being the first and current UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion as well as the last Strikeforce champion of the same class. She is currently undefeated in mixed martial arts as well as the recipient of an Olympic medal in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. Along with the fighting prowess, Ronda has begun her cross into the acting business with her first feature film role in 2014's The Expendables 3. In 2015 she had roles in both Furious 7 and Entourage and just over a month ago, it was announced that she would star in a reboot of the classic Road House.

Captain Marvel also known as Ms. Marvel is a superhero who is near and dear to my heart, she is introduced in the comics as Carol Danvers, an officer in the U.S.A.F. and the security chief of a secret military base. During her time on the base, she meets Dr. Lawson who is secretly the Kree hero Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell). In the midst of an explosion caused by a Kree device, Carol sustains injuries and although she is saved by Captain Marvel, her genetic structure is forever altered and she is effectively turned into a human-Kree hybrid giving her the powers of Mar-Vell. After gaining her powers she has become quite the staple to the Marvel universe through House of M, Secret Invasion & Secret Wars. She's also been affiliated with S.H.I.E.L.D., The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy and even the X-Men adding to the validity of her character as one of Marvel's premier heroines.

So Ronda wants to play Captain Marvel and has a collection of fans who think that to be a good casting choice, although I am not a staunch advocate of her portraying my favorite leading lady - I do admit that I can see why people think she could make a good Captain Marvel - I just can't toss in my agreement until she has legitimate leading actress duties and she's required to carry the movie.

But my personal opinion on her ability to portray Captain Marvel aside, I thought I'd take you through a few potential other characters that could be an ever better fit for Ronda Rousey, starting with this super-villain.

Scandal Savage

Now Scandal may not be a character that you're familiar with, but if you've followed The Justice League or Justice Society you've probably heard of her father, Vandal Savage. Scandal was trained in combat by her father from a young age and quickly became a villainess not to be trifled with. Associated with the Secret Six before the New 52, led by Amanda Waller, Scandal is "damned hard to kill". As her father is an immortal, we are led to assume that she may be immortal as well capable of holding her own against the likes of Talia al Ghul and Hawkgirl.

Ronda would be an incredible Scandal Savage if DC were to introduce her character as a new villain while they are building their cinematic universe. Ronda would definitely carry the physicality of the character and even some of the mannerisms of seeming cold or solely dedicated to whatever mission is in front of her.

Star Sapphire

Staying in the DC world, Star Sapphire would be an incredible character to portray. Star Sapphire was originally, Carol Ferris, Hal Jordan's girlfriend before being possessed by a strange gem from space. Through her story she was originally quite the villain; menacing Jay Garrick and Hal Jordan before ultimately coming in control of the gem (now a ring) which turned out to be a ring with similar abilities to that of the members of the Green Lantern Corps. After gaining control Star has become more heroic over time as the Sapphires fight for the dedication of love.

Ronda, once again could quite easily portray Carol Ferris. Although in the original Ryan Reynold's Green Lantern film, Blake Lively portrayed Carol with the re-envisioning of the entire DC Universe Carol will most likely be recreated and Ronda would easily be able to portray both sides of the character: Carol & Star Sapphire.

Amora the Enchantress

Enchantress is one of Thor's most powerful foes, as well as being an incredibly gifted sorceress able to match the powers of Loki. She uses her natural feminine wiles as well as bewitching powers to entrap others into her service. Although this is her main strength, she is Asgardian and with her lineage comes an incredible fighting prowess even teaming with Baron Zemo to challenge the Avengers as she has an insatiable thirst for power and notoriety.

Ronda definitely carries a solid balance of feminism and brute force incredibly well, and that combination is a sure fire match for Enchantress. I would love to see her take on a character of this magnitude and bring her to the big screen for Marvel.

Valkyrie

Valkyrie is another Asgardian character although she is a hero compared to Amora. Valkyrie was chosen by Odin to lead the Valkyrior, a group of Asgardian Goddesses who protect all of Valhalla. Valkyrie has crossed over from Asgard to Earth on several occasions, and eventually she teamed with Captain America, Black Widow, Ant-Man and others to form the Secret Avengers. She is a well trained warrior as she was hand-picked by Odin for her original task. She also carrier two weapons: a sword named Dragonfang as well as an unnamed spear.

Ronda could easily pull off an Asgardian character like Valkyrie. She has the physical demeanor as well as carrying the fighting prowess that would come hand-in-hand with a character like Valkyrie.

Taskmaster

Now, this may get me some hate, but I'm going to say it anyway. Taskmaster is an incredible character with a form of a photographic memory that allows for photographic reflexes. After seeing something physical, Taskmaster can reproduce it effortlessly. Taskmaster spent a great deal of time observing the fighting techniques of various heroes and villains, eventually executing several grand larcenies. Using the stolen funds Taskmaster decided to establish an academy to train aspiring criminals, which turned out to be even more lucrative than outright theft.

Ronda would be an incredible gender-bent Taskmaster. Taskmaster's entire strength is in his ability to counter his opponents which we all know that Ronda can do exquisitely.

So there you have it, five characters that I think Ronda Rouse could portray if she truly does want to join a cinematic universe.
