Recently, Netflix put up a new feature recommendation for me at the top of its website. Since my grandma took me to see The Nutcracker when I was a kid, I thought I would give it a try. I can certainly say that it did not disappoint. The movie certainly had a high budget that allowed the magic of the story to come to life, and the costumes were very glamourous. Over all, I must admit, I liked it.
'The Nutcracker and the Four Realms'
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is a 2018 Disney movie based on the well known, and the very classic, The Nutcracker ballet. It had a huge budget of 174 million dollars and then got terrible scores on Rotten Tomatoes to overall average to about... 35%. Yikes!
1. This is sad... I thought this was suppose to be a happy story
![](https://res.cloudinary.com/jerrick/image/upload/d_642250b563292b35f27461a7.png,f_jpg,q_auto,w_720/xu8kxus5cdpqrwmhziut.png)
I remember a mouse, a shrinking lady, a gorgeous ballerina coming out of an egg and a toy soldier. I do NOT remember this sad intro.
2. I want a pet owl...
![](https://res.cloudinary.com/jerrick/image/upload/d_642250b563292b35f27461a7.png,f_jpg,q_auto,w_720/u3ap1q2plbwbo6nyxbqk.png)
I'm getting some Harry Potter vibes from this movie...
3. Finding your present like this actually seems so fun!
![](https://res.cloudinary.com/jerrick/image/upload/d_642250b563292b35f27461a7.png,f_jpg,q_auto,w_720/pdrzhik4mfy6znj8dfk0.png)
It's like a scavenger hunt meets Christmas... who put all the work into this and why are they so awesome?
4. Why would the mom only send one daughter?
![](https://res.cloudinary.com/jerrick/image/upload/d_642250b563292b35f27461a7.png,f_jpg,q_auto,w_720/wnfxrxkh6l05rg6lfz7s.png)
I guess favouritism isn't a new thing.
5. Yes! The owl is back!
![](https://res.cloudinary.com/jerrick/image/upload/d_642250b563292b35f27461a7.png,f_jpg,q_auto,w_720/nysfowvv93es2pgpui3p.png)
I know it's just a movie, but I feel like that owl is here for me too.
6. This reminds me a lot of Narnia, just saying...
![](https://res.cloudinary.com/jerrick/image/upload/d_642250b563292b35f27461a7.png,f_jpg,q_auto,w_720/ggo87js4bubhcwed80jz.png)
At first, I really thought this was going to take the whole Harry Potter kind of magic thing... but now I see this is clearly a Narnia kind of magic.
7. I like how it looks like she has wings
![](https://res.cloudinary.com/jerrick/image/upload/d_642250b563292b35f27461a7.png,f_jpg,q_auto,w_720/bpozylhvs1zbkuvl2pez.png)
It's know it's cliche, but I still like it.
8. I feel like this would be my reaction too
![](https://res.cloudinary.com/jerrick/image/upload/d_642250b563292b35f27461a7.png,f_jpg,q_auto,w_720/djszv81k12xd2uxaq3yw.png)
This is her reaction to being told how dangerous "The Fourth Realm" is. However, she was also just told that she is a princess of a secret realm and that they want her to singlehandedly save them all... so she is probably a little overwhelmed right now. Just a little.
9. Can she do my hair too?
![](https://res.cloudinary.com/jerrick/image/upload/d_642250b563292b35f27461a7.png,f_jpg,q_auto,w_720/x5pdkyvuycsxknxut1u6.png)
It seemed so quick and painless. This really must be a magical land if looking good is quick and painless.
10. See, this is the Nutcracker that I remember!
![](https://res.cloudinary.com/jerrick/image/upload/d_642250b563292b35f27461a7.png,f_jpg,q_auto,w_720/uglf3vnomzpj3r2zmip4.png)
Weird costumes and ballet... truly a classic.
11. Definitely not a happy story...
![](https://res.cloudinary.com/jerrick/image/upload/d_642250b563292b35f27461a7.png,f_jpg,q_auto,w_720/tixcszlc0bq4xfsmxcpj.png)
This is bumming me out...
![](https://res.cloudinary.com/jerrick/image/upload/d_642250b563292b35f27461a7.png,f_jpg,q_auto,w_720/ibxfd35mrwu0cfnhyxer.png)
If you haven't seen the movie yet and don't want to have the ending spoiled... then please do not read the rest.
12. This clown scene is terrifying...
![](https://res.cloudinary.com/jerrick/image/upload/d_642250b563292b35f27461a7.png,f_jpg,q_auto,w_720/hiocaszs5zsylzw0lrcu.png)
That whole "Fourth Dimension" scene is just an absolute nightmare... anyone and everyone who has a fear of clowns can't watch this part of the movie.
13. I feel like I should have seen this coming... but I didn't.
![](https://res.cloudinary.com/jerrick/image/upload/d_642250b563292b35f27461a7.png,f_jpg,q_auto,w_720/vqzzefli0p8ggtikyfsu.png)
She really reminds me of Effie from The Hunger Games. Like... a lot! So I guess this movie reminds me of The Hunger Games now too.
14. I like her better as the bad guy
![](https://res.cloudinary.com/jerrick/image/upload/d_642250b563292b35f27461a7.png,f_jpg,q_auto,w_720/vjy5ljipajci0xhhc3tl.png)
She was too annoying when she was nice. This just suits her character more.
15. I want him to follow her
![](https://res.cloudinary.com/jerrick/image/upload/d_642250b563292b35f27461a7.png,f_jpg,q_auto,w_720/qrpdfdb9xdbqnt5ag7sm.png)
Go to the other world. What is the worst that could happen... right? Fall in love, get married and all that other stuff. Be happy!
Getting Sentimental Over Here
Like I briefly mentioned earlier, my grandmother took me to see The Nutcracker ballet when I was about six. I must admit, now that I am seeing the movie here as an adult, I must have missed a lot of what was going on the first time around... like, the entire plot.
