The Boys Season 2

Episode 4

By Alexandrea CallaghanPublished 6 days ago 3 min read

The first few episodes of The Boys are out and the internet reaction for the most part has been insufferable. Between internet incels talking shit about Erin Moriarty’s looks and creatively illiterate morons screaming that this season is suffering from “bad writing” (something they couldn’t possibly be more specific about because they have no idea what would actually constitute bad writing) this season of The Boys is certainly being talked about. That said I think the new season is off to a great start and it feels literally exactly like the previous 3 seasons that we have gotten. Before we get started with The Boys season 2, episode 4 let’s do a quick recap up to this point, Butcher is dying, Huey’s mom is back, Firecracker is coming after Starlight and for some reason Sister Sage and The Deep slept together…Okay well here we go.

Homelander goes back to the facility where they tested Homelander and his powers. It's obviously very creepy and surreal hammering home the fact that Homelander doesn’t really have a home. He wasn’t raised, he was created. Him being a test tube experiment and treated as such is clearly the reason he is so unstable. That has been evident all series but him feeling the need to go “home” really makes it feel like that is going to be his downfall. Clearly Homelander has been unhinged this whole show but this episode we really saw those cracks in his sanity turn into big, giant chasms. He fully lost it in a way he can really no longer hide. Taking out individual and very specific revenge on the people that tested him and watched him is a very calculated amount of insane. Barbara knocks him down a few pegs which is nice to see but you know that as she’s talking that she’s just going to end up dead. Also Anthony Starr is crazy talented. The man's subtly is actually psychotic. From the twitches in his face to the very quiet changes in his eyes he really conveys every part of insanity so well.

Huey’s dad is braindead and his absent mom is going to pull the plug. He thinks that Compound V can save him so he swallows his pride and asks A Train to get it for him. Kimiko is not on board for this plan for obvious reasons, it's a dumbass plan. And Kimiko is followed by the girl from shining light. A Train goes to steal V from Homelander’s apartment and he runs into Ashley…also in his apartment. Huey and Kimiko fight their way through these people and Kimiko has a very emotional reaction. Karan Fukuhara is stunningly beautiful and such an incredible actress by the way.

Oh my poor Frenchie. Okay first of all if you didn’t know that Frenchie was bisexual till now then I am sorry to say that the problem is in fact you. My man has been up for anything since second 1 of this show. Also he’s French…

*Check the Gen V shoutout*

This Firecracker chick makes me want to rip my hair out. She is making me miss Stormfront. She is in fact a pedophile and she publicly admits this on television and, of course, her crazy ass followers praise her for it. The irony is simply too much. Annie loses it after Firecracker publicizes her abortion. Now obviously Firecracker has no real power, she is weak ass shit so Annie soundly kicks her ass, on live TV…which is what Sister Sage wanted.

Butcher’s condition is causing him to blackout and after his little situation with Ezekial I can’t help but wonder if maybe he still has some residual power leftover from the V. Obviously he isn’t consciously using it and he can’t seem to control it.

Sister Sage is over here giving herself a lobotomy, next level gross and insane, even for this show.

This was a wildly intense episode. Homelander rips through everyone else that worked in the facility and the last shot is of him covered in blood. Starlight losing her shit on Firecracker was great but is going to have some rather gnarly consequences and Huey did end up giving his father the Compound V which seemingly woke him up from his brain dead state. We are halfway through the season and frankly I have no idea how we are going to end it. The Boys have had little to know actual interaction with Homelander, who is off on his own kind of a lot this season. So it is going to be interesting to see them weave these individual storylines back together.
