10 Marvel Couples Fans Want to See

Admit it or not, just about all of us are hopeless romantics to an extent. Whether we enjoy seeing others romantically involved or enjoy a good romance ourselves, most of us have a desire for love, and occasionally, the drama that comes with it.

Even in Marvel comics and films, which according to Graphic Policy are dominated by a male audience, romance plays a big theme.

On the top of our heads, there are several, popular Marvel couples and ex-couples that come to mind: Spider-Man and Mary Jane, Storm and Black Panther, Daredevil and Elektra, and Thor and Jane Foster.

Not surprisingly, there is a lengthy list of certain Marvel couples fans want to see start, or even continue, building love stories with one another, including the following.

Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne

Hope Van Dyne first made her Marvel comics debut in Tales to Astonish #44 during June of 1963. In the film Ant-Man, Hope did not play the main character role some Marvel fans anticipated. However, her and Ant-Man, while they loathed one another at first, did kiss at the end of the film.

When Van Dyne, playing the Wasp, teamed up with Ant-Man in the 2018 Marvel movie Ant-Man and the Wasp, fans were hoping to see the start of a juicy romance. However, that simply wasn't the case. Apparently, in between the films, the love bugs continued their romance before becoming estranged.

Since the 2018 film, some Marvel fans are unclear if Ant-Man and the Wasp is a little setup for bigger things. Will Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne will continue their love story?

Tony Stark and Meredith McCall

Although Tony Stark and Meredith McCall had a brief fling when they met at age 17, many long time Marvel fans consider Meredith Tony's first love. In fact, we met Meredith in the Prime Marvel Universe (Earth-616) in Iron Man #28.

Tony and Meredith's love story was, essentially, of the same vein as Romeo and Juliet's. Meredith was a rival of Tony's father, who forbade them from being together.

When the two got in touch years later, when Iron Man saved Meredith from the Controller at the Pinewood sanatorium, some fans crossed their fingers that the two would get back together. Unfortunately, Tony Stark took off when he discovered that Meredith was a married woman.

Reed Richards and Sue Storm

The relationship between Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic) and Sue Storm (Invisible Woman) is certainly one of the Marvel couples fans want to see continue.

As Marvel fans are aware, in recent years, Marvel has been breaking up married couples left and right. Reed and Sue have been married for quite some time, leading fans to believe that Marvel will eventually ruin their love with a nasty split.

While many love Reed Richards and Sue Storm together, the length of their relationship is essentially "too good to be true" as far as Marvel comics romances go. Fingers crossed that their love story lives on.

Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter

As many might recall, Steve Rogers (Captain America) and Peggy Carter fell in love in Captain America: The First Avenger. Sadly, Captain America was frozen for nearly 70 years, until he woke back up in the 21st century to lead the Avengers.

In the time frame that Steve was frozen, Peggy Carter continued to grow older. Rather than resuming his relationship with Peggy, Steve began igniting a new romance with his ex's grandniece, Sharon Carter.

In fact, we get a taste of Steve and Sharon's relationship in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Then, the lovers attend Peggy's funeral.

Marvel fans are left thinking about what the fate for Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter would have been if Steve were never frozen. While Peggy has passed, many still wish the two were back together; but as they say, timing is everything.

Vision and Scarlet Witch

For decades, Vision and Scarlet Witch's romance tugged at our heartstrings. In 1974, the duo even said "I do" to one another. While they clearly had their differences, the witch and the android gave to the other what each lacked.

Unfortunately for Scarlet Witch (also known as Wanda), Vision was tragically destroyed in Avengers: Infinity War. When the Avengers found his parts and reconstructed him, he lost his emotional capabilities, including his feelings for Wanda. As a result, the couple split not long after.

Eventually, Vision regained some of its emotions, leading us to believe his lengthy romance with Scarlet Witch would resume, but it never did. Perhaps the main reason we wish they fell back in love is because Wanda played a major role in Vision's understanding of love and being human.

Doctor Strange and Clea

Star-crossed lovers Doctor Strange and Clea were the first Marvel couple that lived together outside of wedlock, making them an important (ex-)duo in the Marvel universe. While Strange and Clea eventually married and then divorced, some fans still wish they would have worked out in the end.

Others argue that Strange and Clea are toxic towards each other, and should never get back together. Clea once cheated on Strange, and Strange also engaged in multiple infidelities with call girls while he was with Clea.

After their relationship came to an end, Clea returned to the Dark Dimension to claim the throne. Nevertheless, the imperfections of Doctor Strange and Clea, as well as the realistic pitfalls of their relationship, made them a likable Marvel couple.

Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy

While many typically root for Spider-Man and Mary Jane, true Marvel fans know that Gwen Stacy was Peter Parker's first true love. After all, they always say that you never really get over your first love, right? True romantics might even go so far as to say that Gwen is "the one" for Peter.

Sadly for Peter, Gwen falls to her death in both the 1973 comic Amazing Spider-Man #121: The Night Gwen Stacy Died and in the 2014 film, The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Many fans were shocked when Marvel killed off such a beloved character.

However, in some alternate universes, Gwen Stacy does not die. In fact, in one universe, Gwen actually obtains spider powers, becoming Spider Gwen, a variant of Spider-Man. Is it really too late for them to rekindle with all the multiverses there are?

Bruce Banner and Black Widow

While some would rather Bruce Banner be with his ex-lover, Betty Ross, many of us still wish the Hulk and Black Widow were a thing, even if it does, at times, seem forced. After all, Black Widow helps calm down Hulk's hot temper.

However, many fans were sent into a spin when the Marvel Cinematic Universe Hulk and Black Widow were together in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Talk about a major curveball. Some Marvel fans might have speculated that the newfound romance wouldn't last; and well, they might be right.

Toward the end of Age of Ultron, Hulk takes off in a Quinjet, hanging up on Natasha as he flees. In Avengers: Infinity War, we notice there is some awkward tension between Hulk and Black Widow after having not seen each other for years. Still, many hope they'll get back to where they left off, so long as Marvel doesn't commit itself to the deliberately bad idea that a Hulk and Black Widow film would be.

Tony Stark and Pepper Potts

For a younger Marvel crowd, who have no idea who Tony's first love Meredith was (or simply do not wish them to get back together), they might, instead, want Stark and Virginia "Pepper" Potts to make it to "I do."

What many loved about Tony and Pepper's relationship was that it was nonsexual. It showed Marvel fans that sexual attraction is synonymous with love, despite the fact that Tony Stark was previously known as a player, an egotistical character, or even a sleaze. His bond with Pepper, however, changed him.

While it was clear Pepper and Tony really had something, Pepper later dumped Tony in Captain America: Civil War when he became obsessed with his role as Iron Man. Then the duo got back together sometime before Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Though they seemed happy again in Avengers: Infinity Wars, and appear to be working on a longer term commitment to each other, Tony's ego has some Marvel fans worried there will be another future breakup if Tony fails to prioritize his relationship with Pepper again.

Hawkeye and Mockingbird

From the beginning of their love story, many saw Hawkeye and Mockingbird's relationship doomed, despite them being one of the Marvel couples fans want to see make it through the end. After falling in love, the characters got married quickly. Then, the couple moved to the West Coast and created the Avengers West Coast branch.

Unfortunately, things went sour for their relationship in The West Coast Avengers #23. Bobbi Morse (Mockingbird) kills villain Phantom Rider because she felt he deserved it after she claimed he manipulated and raped her. Clint (Hawkeye) grows furious when Bobbi lets him die. This was, ultimately, the breaking point for their relationship.

Although there were certainly turbulences in Clint and Bobbi's marriage, some felt like the two truly did love each other, and were destined to be together. Unfortunately though, they simply couldn't make things work at the time.
