Every year video games become more and more mainstream. At the turn of a new decade, 2020 is no different. Video games have become a staple in homes across the world, whether by console, PC, or smartphone device. As video games continue to rise in popularity, here are some of the most popular trends you should be on the lookout for in 2020.

Increased News Coverage

There have been many popular gaming websites, like tech1985, that look at and discuss video games from all platforms. A lot of gamers enjoy reading more about the games they enjoy as well as look for reviews of games they are thinking about purchasing. Gaming news websites are a great way for gamers to learn more about their favorite franchises and most of these news websites are all-inclusive for every type of gamer, whether you are a pro-gamer or casual gamer.

Gaming As An Adult

As each generation gets older, there is an increased amount of adults playing video games online or offline. As the world enters into a new decade, be sure to keep an open mind to the idea that more and more adults are enjoying the gaming experience. With so many inclusive games that allow both seasoned gamers and newcomers alike, it is no surprise that the amount of adult gamers is on the rise. You should expect to see a continued rise in adults exploring virtual worlds alongside you in this fantastic industry.

Micro transactions and Battle Passes

It may come as a surprise that both micro transactions and battle passes were only beginning to become more mainstream since the mid-2010s, not including DLC (downloadable content). You should expect to see micro transactions continue to make a presence in most video games, especially on mobile devices. If you are more inclined to play shooter or adventure games, the rise of battle passes has only just begun. Be sure to stay on the lookout for games that contain battle passes, especially in some of the larger franchises.

Downloadable Content

While downloadable content has been a major player since the 2000s, it is still something that most games still offer. DLC is basically the older brother of micro transactions and tends to offer large expansions to popular video games. You will tend to see DLC offered in large adventure games or role-playing games. DLC is easily something you can expect more of during 2020.

Browser Games

While games played on your browser on a desktop computer have been around since the dawn of the internet, the capability of playing anything substantial has only just come to fruition. With powerful third-party technologies that help make your browser faster along with overall faster internet speeds across the globe, it has become more commonplace to play video games on your browser at home. With some newer technologies coming out in 2020 and beyond, you can expect to see more use of gaming in your browser on your desktop computer.

VR Technology

VR, or virtual reality, has been on the rise the last few years, but it is just barely becoming much more common in the average home. With improved VR headsets as well as an increased amount of video games designed for virtual reality, you can definitely expect to see much more VR in 2020.

Streaming and Walkthrough Videos

With sites like YouTube and Twitch, gamers have been able to build communities, both large and small, to enjoy video games together. With the advancement of technology, as well as the increased affordability of such technologies, gamers have been able to build personal setups to play games with friends online and stream the fun they are having.

Additionally, many YouTubers have been sharing more walkthrough videos of the games they play for their viewers. As the ability to share gaming experiences becoming more readily available around the world, this is something you can definitely expect to see more of in the year 2020.

As you can see, the video game industry is large and increasing quite drastically. Whether you are just barely getting your feet wet or you are a seasoned gamer, you can rest assured that the year 2020 will only get better for video games.
