The Path of the Elements — Barbarian Primal Path

Granted a boon of power by a primordial, suffused by the might of the elemental planes, or born with a fiery rage; whatever your origins, you can bend the very elements themselves to your will when you rage, granting you a vast array of bonuses.

Level 3: Elemental Heritage

When choosing this path at 3rd level, your elemental ancestry brings itself to the fore. You become fluent in Primordial, and you have advantage on Charisma checks when interacting with elemental creatures.

Level 3: Primordial Rage

Also at 3rd level, you can channel elemental might with your rages. When you enter your rage, you can choose one of the four elements to channel, gaining different effects depending on your choice. In addition, you gain resistance to the damage type associated with your elemental choice, and your rage damage changes to that type. If one of these effects forces a creature to make a saving throw, the DC is equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier.

Air. Lightning damage. You direct the forceful winds of the elemental plane of air. Immediately after you hit a creature with a melee attack, you can force it to make a Strength saving throw. On a failed save, you can choose to push the target up to 10 feet in any direction. You can only use this effect on a creature once per turn.

Earth. Acid damage. You harden your skin with the strength of the elemental plane of earth as a bonus action. At the start of each of your turns while raging, you gain temporary hit points equal to your proficiency bonus, and whenever you take acid damage, you reduce that damage by an amount equal to your rage damage (after calculating resistances).

Fire. Fire damage. You ignite with the heat of the elemental plane of fire. As a bonus action, you can choose to create a vortex of fire around you, dealing fire damage to each creature within 5 feet of you equal to twice your rage damage.

Water. Cold damage. Your body takes on the fluidity of the elemental plane of water. You can take the Dash action as a bonus action on each of your turns. When you do so, opportunity attacks against you have disadvantage until the end of your turn.

Level 6: Elemental Affinity

At 6th level, your connection to the primordial planes allows you to shift your elements. You learn one of the following cantrips: Gust, Mold Earth, Produce Flame, or Shape Water. In addition, you can cast these spells even while raging. When you finish a long rest, you can change this cantrip for another cantrip from the same list.

While you are raging, you can use your bonus action to change your choice of element to channel with your Primordial Rage feature. Once you do so, you can’t do so again until you enter another rage.

Level 10: Destructive Fury

At 10th level, your Primordial Rage feature improves. Each of the four elemental choices gain additional benefits.

Air. For the duration of your rage, each space within 10 feet of you becomes enshrouded in a powerful gale. Hostile creatures treat those spaces as difficult terrain, and ranged weapon attacks against you have disadvantage.

Earth. For the duration of your rage, while you aren’t wearing armour, your AC increases by 2 and cannot be lower than 18, and you have advantage on saving throws against being poisoned, stunned, forcefully moved, or knocked prone.

Fire. For the duration of your rage, the only thing that burns hotter than the fire around you is your fury, and your rage damage becomes equal to your proficiency bonus.

Water. For the duration of your rage, you become mobile and difficult to pin down. You have advantage on Dexterity (Acrobatics) checks and on saving throws against becoming grappled or restrained. In addition, you can spend 5 feet on your turn when you are grappled or restrained to end that effect.

Level 14: Elemental Mastery

Starting at 14th level, whenever you use your Primordial Rage feature, you can choose two elements instead of one. You gain resistance to both damage types, and you can choose which of the two damage types your rage deals at the start of each of your turns. When you use your Elemental Affinity feature to change elements, you still only change one of the element choices.
