The History of Video Games #4: The Sinclair ZX Spectrum - Part Two
Last week we saw the rise of the ZX Spectrum, which coincided with the demise of the Atari 2600. We looked at the perils of cassette-based physical media, and how the speccy’s ‘open’ system allowed for the first modding scene, and the beginning of indie gaming.

How To: Level Up Your PC Without Breaking the Bank!
One thing is for certain; gaming isn't a cheap hobby. Especially PC gaming. Technology is expanding at an extremely rapid pace and one day your computer may be able to handle all the new next generation games, while a couple days later something even greater is released and its time to upgrade that old graphics card again. Or if you're a student like me, you may not have 1000 dollars just burning a hole in your pocket to spend on a good enough computer that can handle Destiny 2 or COD:WW2 (Totally a Battlefield 1 copy by the way).
Tyler WedderburnPublished 7 years ago in Gamers 5 Tips For Playing Better Druids
The wardens of the wild, druids are seen as strange, primitive, and powerful. The keepers of nature, these casters are empowered by a force that's often older than the gods, allowing them to bend the raw elements to their cause. While they may be good, evil, or otherwise, there is no denying the potency of a druid who has chosen to take the field.
Neal LitherlandPublished 7 years ago in GamersMass Defective or Not? In Defense of Mass Effect: Andromeda
Mass Effect: Andromeda. So many Youtube videos I've watched and posts I've read online have gone to town on the game, most of the criticism being aimed at wonky character models and animations, while some have also been critical of the story and the characters not being as good as the characters from the previous trilogy. And while I can't say that some of their points aren't valid, I do feel that some of the players were a bit harder on the game than it needed to be, and in fact, I feel like their overabundance of criticism and the response that Bioware had—to put the game on the shelf rather than doing anything else—was the wrong reaction. It wasn't wrong that they disliked the game, no—they have every right to. But, I feel that maybe their expectations were a bit too high going into it, and that these high expectations led to the game falling apart.

Jacob ElyacharPublished 7 years ago in GamersThe Problem with AAA Games
It is no secret that Indie games have been increasing in popularity at an impressive rate for a number of years now and, in many ways, are held in higher regard than the big company’s titles. What exactly is the reason for this trend and where have AAA titles gone wrong?
Shaun PondPublished 7 years ago in GamersIs 'The Sims 4' an Improvement on 'The Sims 3'?
I know it’s been a whole 3 years since The Sims 4 was released by Electronic Arts but even as I play it today, there are still things I miss about The Sims 3. In this article I’m going to argue for both sides and together, after all this time, we will finally find out which game is the best.
Kathryn BarnsleyPublished 7 years ago in GamersDelta T Global Beta
Brought to us by Empower Labs, Delta T is the latest augmented reality game to be under known development. Its story starts far into the future, where four mega corporations wage an endless and relentless war that threatens to bring around the extinction of mankind. In desperation, these Megacorps begin to manipulate time in the hopes of erasing the histories of their opposition for all eternity. Each of these mega corporations has its own brand of patent technology, a unique vision for the future of our world and will risk it all to "save" their own versions of humanity.
Handsome Jack – The Best Game Villain Ever?
Potential spoilers for any who have not completed Borderlands 2. So I will just admit right off the bat that I am a big fan of Handsome Jack (edit: very big understatement, consider revising at a later date). It makes me seriously question my morality, but I can't help but adore this guy - sure, he might have an ego the size of a small moon, he might be a bit of a sociopath and he has a penchant for choking people (oops, sorry — I meant strangling — big difference).
Chris RoomePublished 7 years ago in GamersImpressions of Day Z
The zombie genre was originally conceived as a vehicle for the exploration of human nature. We are meant to ask ourselves, against the backdrop of hordes of the living dead, who are the real monsters? Is it the humans? Is it the zombies? Well as it turns out, at least in the case of Day Z, it's sheer damn boredom. More deadly than any glitchy zombie I came across were the long series of empty houses, the hours of playing on a full server without seeing a single human being, and more painted on doors than you can shake your uselessly ineffective baseball bat at.
David SullivanPublished 7 years ago in GamersShadow of War's Spotty Marketing
Shadow of Mordor, released in 2014 by Warner Bros. Studios, and developed by Monolith Games, was a bit of a shock for me. I had heard about it months in advance, but it seemed far too ambitious. My expectations were nothing short of it completely burning and crashing. And... well, it didn't. It exceeded my admittedly low expectations by quite the margin, and I was thoroughly impressed with it.
Matthew HarbinPublished 7 years ago in GamersThe History of Video Games #3: The Sinclair ZX Spectrum - Part One
In the last article we covered the great video game crash of 1983, which led to the demise of the Atari 2600. This led some to believe that video games were simply a passing fad.
