Valorant has been on the peak of the first-person shooting game scene since its official release 4 years ago. According to Active Player, Valorant has recorded almost 21 million active players for each month of 2024, and the number only continues to grow. With the growth of Valorant as a game and a community comes its eventual entrance to the professional esports scene, which has been dominated by the first person shooter game Counter Strike: Global Offense for the past decade. Valorant’s developer, Riot Games, organizes regional tournaments for each team to compete in to determine the best of the best of each region. Once determined, these teams head onto the international stage where they compete for the title of Champions. Southeast Asian team Paper Rex are currently competing in the Pacific region of the tournament, ready to take on the entire world for Champions in Seoul this month.

Based in Singapore, Paper Rex is a gaming organization founded in 2020 filled with competitive and goal-driven people who aim to be the best when it comes to entertainment and competitive esports. It was founded by the iconic and legendary CS:GO player, Harley “dsn” together with Nikhil Hathiramani. Currently, PRX’s competing Valorant roster includes something, d4v41, f0rsakeN, Jinggg, and mindfreak. All these players stem from different parts of Asia such as Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and even Russia. This team is the perfect combination of gritty veterans and up-and-coming talents who are perfect for the signature playstyle Paper Rex has: playful, aggressive at times, and confident.

Their aggressive yet confident plays have given them many remarkable achievements that brought them to where they are now: consistently placing in the top 4 of every international tournament they attend - which has been every single tournament since 2022 - and finishing first during VCT Pacific’s Stage 1 in May 2024. Through these tournaments, PRX have seen a rise in their supporters and watchers, deeming their games as always the most fun to watch. Add that to the fact that all the players in the team are funny, dorky, and incredibly nice, Paper Rex has established themselves as a team to always watch out for.

Currently, the team is competing in Stage 2 of VCT Pacific, where the top 3 finishes will have a chance to compete for the Champions trophy in Seoul this July. Paper Rex is the number 1 seed in their group stage, and has a chance to qualify for the upcoming international tournament. If successful, this will be their third Champions tournament, and they will be one of the teams with the most attendance to every official international Valorant LAN. PRX are known to always nearly miss out on lifting the trophy at every international LAN they attend to, but with how they’re performing lately, the opposite might happen this time around. The team is dominating their group stage, and are set on becoming the second pacific team to lift the trophy for the region after Korean powerhouse Gen G succeeded last May 2024 in VCT Masters Shanghai.

Players from other regions like North and South America, Europe, and China have shown their utmost support for Paper Rex since their competitions in Challengers 2021, complimenting their playstyle and praising their improvement as a team and individually. As we approach the end of VCT Pacific Stage 2 and the start of VCT Champions in Seoul, Paper Rex have yet to show just how vicious and mighty their team and synergy can be, especially with the new tactics their coach, Alex, comes up with on the daily. Whatever the result may be, Southeast Asia - and the entirety of the Valorant community - will always be happy to have a team like Paper Rex in the professional scene; the witty, playful, silly, and gritty bunch.
