No matter how good games may become, there will always be a place for the classics. Even as Breath of the Wild blows us all away, interest in the game that started it all — The Legend of Zelda — remains. Whether you're feeling nostalgic and hoping to relive old memories or you're looking to play those old classics for the first time, there are a few options for getting your hands on them.

NES Classic

The NES Classic is a miniaturized, standalone throwback to the original beloved console. Released in late 2016, the NES Classic comes pre-loaded with 30 of the most popular NES games of all time. During the NES Classic's holiday season launch, demand far outpaced supply, hiking the price to $500 and beyond. That mad Christmas dash is behind us now, however. With the NES Classic's retail price of $60, the price breaks down to $2 per game.

The NES Classic comes packaged with a classic NES controller. If you're looking to reproduce old memories for nostalgia's sake, the NES Classic is as close as you'll get without actually possessing the original console. Still, its spread of games is limited, so your favorite might not necessarily be available on the platform.

If you want to take your beloved NES titles with you on-the-go, the 3DS's Virtual Console isn't a bad way to do it. Want to play Dig Dug while riding the bus to work? You can! Virtual Console games are purchased as digital downloads through your Nintendo console of choice. NES titles typically sell for $4.99 or the Nintendo Points equivalent.

If you prefer to do your gaming on the couch and want a wider selection of games than the NES Classic offers, the Wii U's Virtual Console is currently your best bet. Of all of Nintendo's consoles, the Wii U boasts the largest number of NES titles with 94 available games.

As with the 3DS, the price of NES titles on the Virtual Console is typically $4.99 or the Nintendo Points equivalent.

Nintendo Switch: MIA

Though the Nintendo Switch is the new hotness in the console world, the Switch launched without the Virtual Console feature. While Nintendo's extensive library of NES and SNES games will find its way to the Switch eventually, you'll need to be content with the other available options for now.

If you don't own a Wii U or a 3DS, the NES Classic is your easiest path to nostalgia.
