LOS ANGELES -- In the Western Conference finals, the Los Angeles Lakers found themselves in another tight fourth-quarter battle for the third consecutive game. However, once again, they fell short of finishing the job.

The Denver Nuggets secured a 119-108 victory on Saturday, pushing the Lakers into a daunting 3-0 deficit in the series. While the specifics of this defeat differed from the previous two games, the overarching narrative remained consistent: Despite being the top seed in the West, the Lakers struggled to rise to the occasion when it truly counted.

The Los Angeles Lakers find themselves on the brink of elimination, needing just one more win to keep their season alive. Despite a challenging start to the season with a 2-10 record and significant roster changes just before the All-Star break, the Lakers are now banking on their ability to mount one more remarkable comeback.

LeBron James, who contributed 23 points, 12 assists, and 7 rebounds in the game, acknowledges the team's current situation. He emphasizes the importance of taking things one step at a time, focusing solely on Game 4 and leaving no room for distractions. "Just got to get one," James states, recognizing the significance of each game and the team's unwavering determination.

In a crucial game for the Lakers, Saturday presented a prime opportunity for them to secure a victory. Playing on their home court, where they had maintained an undefeated record throughout the postseason, the Lakers had a favorable setting. Additionally, Nuggets' star Nikola Jokic struggled with as many fouls as made field goals (four) in the first three quarters. Anthony Davis also made a significant impact, contributing 28 points on an 11-for-18 shooting and securing 18 rebounds.

However, as the game hung in the balance, it was the Nuggets who capitalized. They embarked on a pivotal 13-0 scoring run, starting from the 7:48 mark of the fourth quarter and lasting until there was only 4:50 remaining, effectively placing the game out of the Lakers' reach. Jokic, with 15 points on a 5-for-7 shooting performance in the final quarter, emerged as the standout player on the court, sealing the victory for the Nuggets.

In NBA history, no team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit in a best-of-seven series, and the Lakers as a franchise have yet to force a Game 5 in such a scenario, with an 0-8 record, according to research conducted by ESPN Stats & Information.

Throughout Games 1 and 2, the Lakers found themselves trailing by a mere three points in the final minutes. Even in Game 3, they had opportunities, managing to take the lead in the fourth quarter. However, the Nuggets have consistently outperformed the Lakers, creating a substantial gap between the two teams as they head into Game 4.

LeBron James highlighted the crucial factor behind this disparity, pointing out the timely shots delivered by the Nuggets' role players. In Saturday's game, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (17 points), Bruce Brown (15 points), and Michael Porter Jr. (14 points) all had their moments to shine. Analysis from ESPN Stats & Information reveals impressive shooting performances from these players: Brown has an 8-for-13 record (including 3-for-7 on 3-pointers), Caldwell-Pope is 11-for-17 (with 5-of-11 from beyond the arc), and Porter has an 8-for-15 record (including 7-of-11 on open shots) throughout the series.

In Game 3, the Lakers didn't receive the same balanced contributions from their roster. D'Angelo Russell struggled on offense, scoring only three points on a 1-for-8 shooting performance. Jarred Vanderbilt managed just two points, shooting 1-for-4, while Dennis Schroder contributed five points, going 2-for-5 from the field.

When asked about his approach and what changes he needs to make to be effective against Denver, Russell expressed uncertainty. He admitted to not knowing the solution at the moment but expressed his determination to figure it out.

Throughout the season, the Lakers have demonstrated their adaptability, successfully navigating various challenges. Despite key injuries, including LeBron James missing a month due to a foot injury, the team secured a spot in the play-in tournament. Subsequently, they made history as only the second No. 7 seed to reach the confer"We have a choice on Monday: either we surrender and go home or we fight for another day. I have complete confidence in the determination of our team," commented Austin Reaves, who has consistently scored over 20 points in all three games of this series.

Certainly, the odds are stacked against the Lakers. Throughout NBA history, nearly two-thirds of teams facing a 3-0 deficit have been swept (91 out of 149). Merely three of those teams managed to force a Game 7.

Despite the unfavorable circumstances, the Lakers will gather for a film session on Sunday and show up for Game 4 on Monday, striving to prolong the season beyond Tuesday.

Lakers coach Darvin Ham acknowledged the challenging situation, stating, "The circumstances may be difficult, but they are not insurmountable."ence finals. The Lakers remain committed to the demanding journey they have undertaken, as long as there are games left on their schedule.
