If you're anything like a typical gamer, then you already know how awesome hack and slash games are. They're an amazing outlet for anger and a great way to get some stress relief.

Perhaps it's because we all like a little gore in our lives, or maybe it's just because of the awesome gameplay, but whatever the reason may be, hack and slash games seem to withstand the test of time better than most others out there.

The best hack and slash games can be one of the most amazing outlets you can have for rage. Want to start getting your inner axe murderer on in a digital playground? Try out these awesome games below!

This is more than just one of your typical hack and slash games; it's art. Breathtaking graphic design and scenery, incredible animation, and some of the most gripping fight moves make this a must-play for any gamer who loves beautiful game design.

Darksiders is about a world where the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse have to intervene to prevent Apocalypse from happening too soon. Tensions are higher than ever, and you will have to come to Earth to find a way to prevent the end of humanity from happening.

You get to play as the horseman, War, and you are being accused of trying to incite a war between Heaven and Hell prematurely. You agree to find the real culprits who have started causing turmoil... but can you do it?

Fans of comic books will adore this game, and if you love amazing fight scenes with easy gameplay, you'll probably get addicted. The game was so popular, it spawned two sequels—and fans couldn't be happier.

According to a number of critics, Darksiders is one of the best hack and slash games in recent years.

Diablo II is not only a legend among hack and slash games; it's a legend in the gaming industry as a whole. This horror-fantasy favorite is known for having excellent gameplay, brilliant graphics, and of course, one of the most addictive designs in history.

Thanks to its incredible design and plot, it regularly ranks among the best hack and slash games ever made.

The entire plot surrounds a group of adventurers overhearing stories about a warrior who is corrupted by demons after defeating Diablo and the chaos that ensues. Can good win over evil, and end the increasingly powerful reign of demons over the world? Can they stop the Dark Wanderer?

Is there anything better than seeing stunningly sexy female assassins kicking but on screen? If you love fighting games, then the only way to make things better is to get hack and slash games that star beautiful women like Bayonetta.

Bayonetta features the titular character, Bayonetta, as she tries to explore the truth about her past, who she is, and who her father happens to be. There are prophecies, mysteries, and what might just be a love interest, too.

This masterpiece was so successful that it spawned a large series of different games under the Bayonetta name, making it one of the best hack and slash games starring a woman.

There have been quite a few hack and slash games that were modeled to mimic World of Warcraft, at least when it comes to aesthetics. Torchlight is one of those games—and boy does it pull it off beautifully.

Along with beautiful graphics, a rich plot taking place in a fantastic "Wild West" kind of world, and great character design, Torchlight gives players the awesome satisfaction of being able to fight tons of monsters and baddies.

Gameplay is awesome, the boomtown known as Ember is great, and it's one of those games that just makes you fall in love with fantasy RPGs all over again.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is one of the many titles that was spawned by the smash hit Metal Gear Solid. As the sequel to one of the grittiest, most dystopian hack and slash games ever, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is all about bringing the awesome elements of the original back in even greater quantities.

In this game, you play a cyborg ninja by the name of Raiden as he copes with a terrorist attack by Desperado and works to rescue his teammate. Can you help defeat this terrorist group, save the day, and maybe get a break once in a while?

Beautiful weapons, detailed graphics, and smooth gameplay make this a gem, even among the Metal Gear franchise. Many fans of the series believe that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is one of the best hack and slash games to be made in the saga.

DmC: Devil May Cry, with its badass name, definitely delivers the punches that you'd expect from a video game with its moniker. This game is actually based in an alternate reality of the Devil May Cry franchise.

In this reality, Dante is a disenfranchised young man who lives in Limbo City—a modern town which is literally controlled and manipulated by demons. After a brief warning from a woman named Kat, he realizes that he's being hunted by demons, and it'll be up to him and his brother Virgil to make things stop.

Gorgeous gameplay and a very Dante's Inferno-style world design are what really make this one of the most interesting hack and slash games out there.

Fans of hack and slash games with loads of expansions will probably love the game Titan Quest, as well as its expansion pack Titan Quest: Immortal Throne. This incredibly massive, captivating world is all about making Ancient Greek myths come to life using spectacular graphics, quests, and fight scenes.

The Titan Quest: Immortal Throne starter pack also has added character options and lets people explore the deeper depths of Hades in the already lore-rich world of Titan Quest. Fight baddies, slash your way through Hell, and get amazing treasure—gaming doesn't get any better than this!

Though there have been a number of games focused on Greek mythos, Titan Quest and its expansion pack have been regularly claimes as one of the best hack and slash games in the genre.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is one of the many, many different games that blossomed from theCastlevania original game. The entire series is known for being high quality, especially when it comes to an engaging plot, challenging battles, and of course, brilliant graphics.

In Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, you get to play as Gabriel as he fights his way through monsters in a bid to bring his wife back from the dead. However, as many people can tell you, there might just be a major catch to the offer he was given...

The entire Castlevania: Lords of Shadow collection has absolutely gorgeous graphics and awesome gameplay. Fans who love steampunk aesthetics with a slightly gothic edge are going to fall in love with this world design, while fans of hack and slash games will love cutting down werewolves and other creatures of the night.

Gauntlet Legends might be one of the less-celebrated hack and slash games on this list, but it definitely deserves its own accolades. This 1981 video game was one of the first games to actually be part of the genre, and also featured surprisingly good graphics for its age.

This game, which was released originally on the Nintendo 64 system, still has a warm (and nostalgic) place in many peoples' hearts. Even though you might have to find an emulator to play it, it's worth a shot. It's a classic in every sense of the word.

For the longest time, Gauntlet Legends was regarded as one of the best hack and slash games ever made. Even if it is retro, it's still amazing.

God of War is one of the very few games that is as well known for its soundtrack as it is for its awesome gameplay. Based on Ancient Greek mythology, God of War is all about Kratos, a Spartan soldier who Athena has given the task of killing Ares, the god of war.

Ares had tricked Kratos into killing his own wife and child, so he goes after the god with glee. Can Kratos find Pandora's Box? Can he get revenge for what Ares had done to him? Only you can find out...

The plot is genius, the acting is emotional, and you will fall in love with the world that God of War brings. Needless to say, you'll end up wanting to hack and slash Ares to death, too.

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is all about the Crusades, and gives you a chance to bludgeon, slash, and wreck those who stand in your way. It's got a nice historic quasi-background, absolutely brutal gore scenes, and some of the most insane fight scenes ever. In other words, the levels of fights in this game will put most other hack and slash games to shame.

Players are given medieval weapons in the form of swords, shields, and other goodies—and then, basically, everyone goes to town. Brutal weapons, detailed environments, and high-precision gameplay makes this a really, really addictive hack and slash game.

If you love the idea of being a knight in a brutal battlefield, this is one of the best hack and slash games you can buy right now.
