War games come in a million different flavors—first-person shooters, strategy games, even war-themed board games exist. On the Xbox One, though, they tend to all have certain qualities in common.

First off, they tend to be hyper-competitive and interactive. They also tend to have intimidating enemies and pulse-pounding storylines that will get you obsessed. And, of course, they tend to acquire fandoms of their own due to their awesomeness.

Love war games? We do, too. Here are the best Xbox One war games you can be playing right now...

Humans versus aliens—is there an any more classic plotline? We think not. Gears of War 4 has everything that great Xbox One war games should have. It has a great plot where JD Fenix needs to uncover strange disappearances. It has good gameplay. And the graphics are phenomenal.

Find out what happens years after the events of Gears of War 3, and your game night will never be the same. This game also offers an amazing 2-player co-op setting, for those who feel social when they want to blow aliens to bits.

If you're looking for a more modern war game, you might like Sniper Elite 4. This is one of the best war games that takes place in WWII, and it follows the story of a sniper whose job is to take down Nazis and other baddies, by shooting them in the head.

Great graphics and a classic story makes Sniper Elite 4 a great game for anyone who's wanted to check out what it's like to be a WWII soldier. Multiplayer modes are available on this one, so you can shoot away with your friends if you want to, too.

Fans of WWII history will quickly get why this is one of the best Xbox One war games you can get.

Most of us have, at one point or another, wanted to see what it'd be like for our favorite characters to exist in an alternate reality. Assuming you're not buying into the Rick and Morty multiverse theory, where you can see TV shows from other universes, you'll need to just sit tight and hope.

For those who loved old school Call of Duty, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will prove to be a smash hit. This is an alternative-reality version of the game where war just got a whole lot darker—and a lot more technologically advanced. Chilling? Absolutely, and with the epic CoD gameplay you know you're getting, there's no reason to hate this game.

Far Cry 4 isn't like many of the others on lists of Xbox One war games to buy. This one is actually a lot more upbeat than most of the others you'll see. The backgrounds are colorful. Not all the animals are dead. Plus, there's far corners of the world to explore.

The Complete Edition version of this game gives you more missions, more campaigns, and better gameplay than ever before. Multiplayer and single player are both possible and equally entertaining.

Xbox One war games tend to focus on the human side of war—and the shoot 'em up side, too. Titanfall, though it has you shooting at giant robots, is surprisingly artful in the way they portray war. There are emotional scenes, and there are breathtakingly beautiful graphics, too.

The only issue with Titanfall is its gameplay. Single player gaming isn't allowed on this game, and you will need an Xbox Gold membership to actually play it. If you tend to be a lone shooter, or just don't want to splurge on Gold membership, you might want to pass this one by.

Playing game after game on this list will probably leave you craving something a little more spooky. After all, there's only so many ways to get shaken up by a horrible, war-torn dystopia.

Dead Rising 4 is one of the best Xbox One war games for people who want to get a refreshing breath of (infected zombie) air. In Dead Rising 4, players take the role of Frank West, as he fights off an army of zombies, in the last days of humanity.

New zombie types have been included; and up to four players can enjoy co-op mode at a single time. The more the merrier, here, so don't be shocked if you end up making enough noise to wake the dead with this game.

Most Xbox One war games have war as the main theme. This one, though, kind of doesn't. Rather, it shows the aftereffects of a society that ended up bombing itself into obliteration via nuclear war. This particular game carries on the oddly retro-post-apocalyptic Fallout storyline, with a lone survivor in the New England area finally checking out what Earth looks like.

It's sad in the same way others of the game franchise are, and it's got a lot of the classic goodness, too. Gameplay is awesome, and you'll want to explore the world of Falloutjust a little bit more.

We couldn't have a list of the coolest Xbox One war games without including a game that takes place in the Galaxy Far, Far Away. Star Wars Battlefront II is a classic that has gotten rave reviews from gamer magazines around the world.

The Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition comes with the ability to turn your troopers into the most dangerous opponents in the galaxy, with customized weapons, killer firepower, and new abilities not seen in the standard version.

Finally, we're going to round this list of the best Xbox One war games with one of the only franchises to actually get a movie based off it: Halo. Why? Because of course, it's got to be on this list. It's friggin' Halo!

Halo Wars 2 Ultimate Edition is one of the most heavily anticipated games in the franchise's history, and the reviews speak for themselves. Rich gameplay, real-time strategy, epic graphics, and amazing multiplayer warfare make this a must-see for anyone who loves the franchise.
