21 Preposterous Pokemon Webcomics
Onix-pectedly funny comic strips about your favorite pokemon
Pokemon has been around for over 25 years and inspired millions to be the very best (like no one ever was). As such, it has left quite the impression on kids, adults, and yes, even reclusive online comic artists.
So today, to celebrate my love of both pocket monsters and webcomics, I've collected 21 hilarious pokemon comics for you, organized by comic artist. And although this humor is a little Oddish, I do hope these comics will at least make you Shuckle.
Pokemon Comics by Safely Endangered
Starting us off is Safely Endangered, a webcomic artist who I adore, and have talked about before when I created my delightfully dark webcomics article.
1. Caught Pikachu
2. Extreme Nuzlocke Challenge
A bit of context for the above comic - The Nuzlocke challenge is an unofficial way to make pokemon games a bit harder for the more experienced players. The (self-imposed) rules vary, but here are a few basic rules:
- Every pokemon that faints is considered "dead" and you must release it if this occurs.
- You may only catch the first wild Pokémon encountered in each area, and none else. You do not get a second chance if that pokemon faints in battle, or flees the battle.
- You should nickname every pokemon to encourage forming a bond with that pokemon.
- A black out/white out is considered to be a "game over"
You can read more about the Nuzlocke Challenge here.
Pokemon Comics by Colms Comics
Colms Comics is a great comic artist who frequently delves into pokemon comics, but also occasionally stars superheroes, and other video game characters such as Link and Sonic.
Note- for the next three comics below, you will have to scroll through the Instagram posts (but it's worth it, I promise)
3. Mom! Mom!
4. Dancing Pokemon
5. Hyperbeam
Pokemon Comics by Danby Draws
Danby Draws is a funny comic artist who doesn't often create pokemon comics, but the ones he does draw are always uniquely funny.
6. This is me singing
Pokemon Comics by Awkward Zombie
Awkward Zombie creates a lot of great video game comics including titles from the worlds of Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Metroid, Fire Emblem, Kingdom Hearts, Mass Effect, Minecraft, Metal Gear.... really the list goes on and on. Chances are, if you like a video game, Awkward Zombie has probably made a comic about it. Check out more of her comics here.
7. Egging the Question
8. Cure and Simple
9. Ransom
Pokemon Awkward series by Dark Kenjie
The Pokemon Awkward comics are darkly adorable, and can be found mostly on Deviant Art.
10. Charbone
A bit of context for the above comic - The skull-wearing pokemon Cubone has a canonically dark and sad backstory. Take a few of its Pokedex entries as an example:
Pokemon Red/Blue (first appearance):
Because it never removes its skull helmet, no one has ever seen this Pokémon's real face.
Pokemon Yellow:
Wears the skull of its deceased mother. Its cries echo inside the skull and come out as a sad melody.
Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire:
Cubone pines for the mother it will never see again. Seeing a likeness of its mother in the full moon, it cries. The stains on the skull the Pokémon wears are made by the tears it sheds.
So, go forth in the world and give all your Cubones a hug.
11. Water Gun
12. Bad Breath
Pokemon Comics by Matt Knight
Matt Knight is another comic artist who has very few pokemon comics, but his style and sense of humor are simply lovely.
13. Balls of Steel
Pokemon Comics by JHallComics
JHallComics celebrates poke-mondays - where he posts pokemon comics on Mondays. You might notice a few different watermarks on his work, as he has also done comics for College Humor and their sister site, Dorkly.
14. Life of a Player versus life of an NPC
15. Fainted Pokemon
16. Intimidate
Pokemon Comics by RandoWis
RandoWis is a classic nerdy comic artist, with dark, raunchy, and unpredictable humor style. I highly recommend checking out his website here.
17. Dream Eater
18. Brock Hard
19. Pidgey Use Fly!
Pokemon Comics by Rare Candy Treatment
I do believe that Rare Candy Treatment is no longer active in the online comics community, but if you can ever scrape up some comics by them, then you really are in for a treat.
20. Strength Check
21. Substitute
