1. Hunter spider

Huntsman spiders live from Australia and Africa to Asia, the Americas and the Mediterranean. They measure up to 12cm, with an impressive stride spanning up to 27cm. Unlike many spiders, huntsman spiders do not use spider silk to trap prey. Instead, they use their own bodies to attack when they encounter the right target

2. Goblin shark

The goblin shark (Mitkurina owstoni) is a rare species, sometimes called a "living fossil", and is also the only extant representative of the family Mitsukurinidae - a lineage of fish about 125 million years old. This species has pink skin with a distinctive shape, a long, flat nose and protruding teeth with claw-like teeth. Goblin sharks are usually 3m to 4m long when mature, living on the bottom of continents, undersea canyons and submarine mountains around the world at depths of more than 100m.

3. Promachoteuthis Sulcus squid

Promachoteuthis Sulcus squid, a rare species, typically lives in the icy depths of Antarctica. This creature is small in size, only about 25cm long, but possesses a round jaw like a human, with sharp teeth arranged in many rows. This is a unique feature that distinguishes it from other squid species

4. Atlantic wolffish

The Atlantic wolffish is a close relative of the wolffish, living in the North Atlantic Ocean. Their bodies have natural antifreeze that helps blood still circulate in the circulatory system in extremely cold environments

5. Star-nosed mole

Star-nosed moles live mainly in the wet lowlands of North America. This species is famous for being a skilled swimmer and capable of hunting underwater. They eat everything from insects to worms, mollusks and small fish. They are also the fastest eaters in the world, able to eat and consume food in less than a quarter of a second

6. Pacific lamprey

Pacific lampreys are native to Pacific waters, specifically from Alaska to California. This saltwater fish has a bizarre appearance with a mouth that resembles a suction cup used to cling to the host fish. They are likened to "vampires" because they feed by sucking the blood and body fluids of their host fish

7. Hairless mole rats

These wrinkled, hairless, 8-10cm long creatures lurk in the deserts of East Africa. They are immune to cancer and can live up to 30 years, an astonishing age in the rodent world. They live together, sometimes up to 300 of them, in a complex and large tunnel system

8. Hairy frog

This terrifying creature lives in Central Africa. It is omnivorous, eating insects, small creatures and almost anything it can swallow

9. Whip spider

Whip spiders mainly eat insects and are not dangerous to humans. They spin webs in warm areas, often in caves

10. Butterfly-necked lizard

Butterfly-necked lizards live in Northern Australia and Southern New Guinea. They like to eat insects like cicadas. This scary-looking creature has large folds of skin on its neck. When in danger, they open their mouths wide and spread out their bright yellow or orange skin to scare them. If they still don't win, they will beat their tails and hiss fiercely

11. Queensland tube-nosed bat

The Queensland tube-nosed bat is a special species native to the tropical forests of Australia and is harmless to humans. They mainly eat fruit, and are essential in seed dispersal and tropical forest regeneration

12. Northern Starfish

Native to the Atlantic Ocean, the northern starfish, or starfish, buries itself in the sand and surprises its prey with its upward-facing eyes. They mainly eat smaller fish and crustaceans. They can create electric shocks to both hunt and defend themselves. Able to reach 56cm in length, they are among the most fearsome looking species with flat bodies and oddly shaped heads
