What Sequel Trilogy Characters In The Galactic Star Cruiser Hotel Means For The Future

Clear Skies!

By Culture SlatePublished 2 years ago 3 min read

The Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser has set sail in a galaxy near you. Well, in Florida, in the United States. Regardless, this is another, if not expensive, way for Star Wars fans to really immerse themselves in the Star Wars galaxy by going on an adventure on the Galactic Starcruiser Halcyon. Meet various Star Wars characters and partake in the sequel era events. So with that being said, what does the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser say about what Disney is looking at when it comes to the sequel era, Star Wars, and the rest of the franchise moving forward.

First and foremost, it is important to realize that Disney considers its theme parks a top priority. In reality, it makes its money not from just the movies and TV shows but from the theme parks. Disney would have gone bankrupt during its darker years if it weren’t for the theme parks.

So What Does This Have To Do With Star Wars?

It seems that Disney plans to make the sequel trilogy its most relevant era at its theme parks. Disney wants to see families paying to go to these parks and, of course, the Galactic Starcruiser. If one really thinks about it, they did not make a generic Star Wars world, but one solely focused on the sequel era. It means they are not afraid to use this era, for it will be some of Disney’s flagship material. The sequel trilogy is the most current, so it makes sense to focus on the period that younger kids are most familiar with.

Long Term Investment

The sequel era, after all, will be seen by kids as something that can not only be viewed but interacted with. So having the impact of taking your picture with Rey will have massive implications in the long run. Disney’s making memories for these kids and getting them ready to be grown adults later in life with fond memories of this particular era that could also supersede the other eras.

At the end of the day, the sequel era is Disney’s original era. It will be the one to invest the most in when it comes to creating a generational fanbase for it. Slowly but surely, Disney is making itself a new audience instead of just trying to capture an older one, an audience that will be far more loyal to its branding and nostalgia. In a few years, Star Wars audiences will be cheering for the return of Rey Skywalker, and instead of calling it Yoda species, it will be known as Grogu species.

Star Wars is all about the generational evolution over time. First, from growing nostalgia for the original trilogy, then the prequels, and eventually, the sequel trilogy one day. Disney is getting ahead of the nostalgia game by putting it front and center at their parks by putting this era in its theme parks.

The Future

After the sequels were done, people said that Lucasfilm had moved away from the sequel trilogy. Yet why are these characters still front and center at the parks? Why can kids take pictures with Rey and Kylo or First Order Stormtroopers? This is still an embrace of this era, and Disney plans to continue it eventually, thus building up that investment and nostalgia. This could lead to more stories soon as well.

The sequel era is essentially still very new material, aside from the newest films and some comics and novels. Anything post The Rise of Skywalker is a blank page. Disney prides itself on its theme park attractions. They are its crown jewel in its ever-growing empire. Thus, it says a lot that it is the sequel era of all things that gets to be the representative of Star Wars. A high and profitable honor.
