As the new Star Wars Disney+ series finally airs, the fan base are finding many interesting articles that provide some explanation to many of their questions. This weekend, Star Wars fans can laugh a little bit at where the idea of Book of Boba Fett opening scene might have come from. If you are familiar with the television series Parks and Recreation, you might be familiar with Patton Oswalt. It appears that Patton Oswalt has written a few lines of how Boba Fett would emerge from the depths of the Sarlacc pit.

In one episode of Season 5 of Parks and Recreation named “Article Two,” Garth Blundin (Patton Oswalt), attempted to keep Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) from making changes to the town charter. In his filibuster at the town hall meeting, Oswalt’s character stated:

“Pan down from the twins suns of Tatooine. We are now closed on the mouth of the Sarlaac pit. After a beat, the gloved Mandalorian armor gauntlet of Boba Fett grabs on to the sand outside the Sarlacc pit and the feared bounty hunter pulls himself up from the maw of the sand beast, having survived his fall.”

One of the opening scenes in The Book of Boba Fett features Boba Fett emerging from the Sarlacc’s pit, first showing his gloved hand reaching out from beneath the sand. These two different pieces of intellectual property are now linked because of Oswalt’s filibuster and Director Robert Rodriguez’ and writer John Favreau’s scene in The Book of Boba Fett.

In addition, Patton Oswalt is credited with predicting three other scenes and storylines in Star Wars. In the same filibuster, he have brought up the idea of a repurposed Star Destroyer (which was realized in The Force Awakens), a grizzled old Han Solo sans wedding ring (also seen in The Force Awakens), and a fake-out death of Chewbacca (seen in The Rise of Skywalker). The coincidence in these rants is interesting and it is unknown if Disney and Lucasfilm were familiar with Parks and Recreation or if they were influenced by them. Hopefully there are no more coincidences or Parks and Recreation writers and directors might want to sue for Boba Fett stealing their ideas. In the same scene, Patton Oswalt’s character goes on to explain how Thanos and Spider-Man end up in the Star Wars universe, which does not appear to be very likely considering both universes exist in different timelines and more realistically totally different universes.

The extended cut of the filibuster can be seen below:

This particular scene is what the Star Wars fan base have been waiting to learn about for a very long time. Ever since Return of the Jedi first played in theaters in 1983, we have been waiting almost 40 years to learn what happened to Boba Fett and how he escaped the Sarlacc pit. More importantly, Star Wars and Disney fans finally learn more about Boba Fett’s adventures after the Sarlacc pit. Fans will also experience what it is like to have flashbacks from traumatic experiences. Boba Fett’s post-traumatic syndrome disorder (PTSD) is on display, at least in the first episode, as the story flashes back and forth from Boba Fett’s escape from the Sarlacc pit to him being accepted by the Tusken Raiders to the present day when he begins his rule of Tatooine criminal underworld as the new crime lord. His partner in crime, Fennec Shand, is also very powerful. The first episode has everyone eager to see the next episode. An interesting scene that may play out later concerns the way Boba Fett’s strategy of ruling in contrast with Fennec Shand’s strategy: respect vs. fear. The relationship between Fennec Shand and Boba Fett will be interesting to follow since they do have a lot in common. Fennec Shand actress Ming-Na Wen commented:

“They’re bonded by the fact they both lived through a near-death experience. And there is a sense of code that they both abide by…”

Hopefully, this relationship makes the series a winner so the fan base can enjoy more of the Star Wars saga.
