The iPhone 15 Pro will finally have Wi-Fi 6E, according to Barclays analysts and a very credible leaker. Chilly, the apple firm will keep the simple 6 Wi-Fi for its two less upscale models, the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus. That is what it means.

A new rumor comes to refute the previous allegations, according to which Apple would bring Wi-Fi 7 for the iPhone 15 Pro. It’s normal, Wi-Fi 7 is still in its infancy. According to analysts, the company’s next high-end smartphone will be equipped “only” with 6E Wi-Fi technology, which nevertheless allows very high-speed wireless connectivity.

Earlier this year, leaks seemed to be going in that direction. In January 2023, the highly credible “Unknownz21” leaker shared Apple internal documents that revealed the presence of Wi-Fi 6E technology on iPhone 15 Pro models. Published this Thursday, a research note from Barclays Bank goes in the same direction.

This is what Barclays analysts think of the iPhone 15 Pro

Blayne Curtis and Tom O'Malley, analysts at Barclays, claim that Apple will only allow the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max to use Wi-Fi 6E.The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, the cheaper models, will keep the usual Wi-Fi 6 standard that is already present on the iPhone 14.

Both Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E are advances in wireless technology, but they address different spectrum and use cases. The conventional 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands are used by Wi-Fi 6, also known as 802.11ax. It is designed to improve the efficiency of data transmission in these bands, making it suitable for applications such as streaming and multiplayer video games.

On the other side, Wi-Fi 6E introduces operating in the 6 GHz frequency range, extending the capabilities of Wi-Fi 6. This addition means that Wi-Fi 6E can access a wider spectrum, reduce network congestion and offer more channels for data transmission. The 6 GHz band is less crowded, which reduces interference and improves performance.

Apple has already added Wi-Fi 6E to some of its newest and premium devices. For example, the 2022 iPad Pro models and the 2023 Mac models are equipped with them. If rumours are true, the iPhone 15 Pro range will be the first model of Apple’s flagship to support Wi-Fi 6E. However, we may have to wait to enjoy it, because the iPhone 15 release is postponed according to a specialist.

Unraveling the Distinction: Wi-Fi 6E vs. Wi-Fi 6 Technology

In the ever-evolving landscape of wireless connectivity, Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E have emerged as the latest advancements, promising faster and more reliable internet experiences. While both technologies belong to the same family, they exhibit significant differences that can impact performance and user experiences.

Wi-Fi 6, also known as 802.11ax, represents the sixth generation of Wi-Fi technology. It offers numerous enhancements over its predecessor, Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), including increased data rates, improved performance in crowded areas, and better power efficiency. Wi-Fi 6 operates within the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands, which are currently crowded due to widespread usage, leading to potential interference and reduced speeds.

On the other hand, Wi-Fi 6E is an extension of Wi-Fi 6, denoting "E" for "Extended." The most significant divergence lies in its additional access to the 6GHz frequency band, which offers substantially more available channels. This vast and untapped spectrum allows for increased bandwidth, reduced congestion, and minimized interference, thereby delivering even higher data rates and lower latencies.

The extended frequency range of Wi-Fi 6E also provides support for a more extensive array of devices without compromising performance. This enables the implementation of cutting-edge technologies such as augmented reality, virtual reality, and 4K/8K streaming with remarkable ease and stability.

In conclusion, while both Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E deliver considerable improvements over previous generations, the inclusion of the 6GHz spectrum in Wi-Fi 6E distinguishes it as the superior choice for the future of wireless connectivity. Embracing Wi-Fi 6E ensures smoother and faster internet experiences, unhampered by the congestion that plagues existing frequency bands, propelling us into an era of seamless connectivity.
