Adam Driver Shares What Daisy Ridley Is Really Like On Set

Driver And Ridley Describe What Working With Each Other Was Like

Whatever one might think about the Star Wars sequel trilogy, the ease with which its lead actors, Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver, worked with each other, particularly regarding Daisy Ridley, is real, according to actor Adam Driver. Like Mark Hamill before her, Daisy Ridley was a relative unknown when she was cast as Rey, the new lead Jedi character, in 2015's The Force Awakens. Adam Driver was cast as Kylo Ren (aka Ben Solo), a dark side Force user, who became Rey and the Resistance's primary nemesis throughout most of the sequel trilogy.

In The Force Awakens, Kylo was introduced as the new "Darth Vader," a crimson cross guard lightsaber wielder who used the Force, wore a fearsome costume and served the new "Empire" (aka The First Order). At the film's climax, Rey, whose power in the Force has been "awakened," duels and defeats Kylo in a pitched lightsaber duel. As Rey continues her training under Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi, she began to learn more about Kylo and his past history, and the two of them start to develop a connection through the Force. The two characters briefly team up together in The Last Jedi. Kylo eventually turned away from the dark side and joined forces with Rey again in the final film, The Rise of Skywalker.

In a YouTube video (seen below) posted by Disney Fan account Oh My Disney, host Michelle Lema asked both Daisy and Adam what their experience was like working on The Last Jedi. According to Driver, Daisy had a "wholly positive presence" both off and on set. He was quoted as saying that he could "listen to her (Daisy) all day." Daisy and Adam's relationship on set heavily mirrored the evolution of the relationship of their respective characters in the sequel trilogy.

This saw the characters going from enemies to tentative allies, to a conflicted connection with each other through the Force, finally to full-blown allies, and even a brief romantic relationship by the end. Throughout filming the movies, the actors developed a deep respect and comfort, eventually giving each other a passionate on-screen kiss at the end of The Rise of Skywalker. Adam described Daisy as being very "emotionally available" and having "great instincts." Daisy has spoken very highly of Adam as well, describing him as "the most amazing scene partner."

They further elaborated on their friendship in an article in V Magazine, which was structured in such a way that they basically interviewed each other rather than receiving questions from another party. During their lighthearted conversation about each other's acting careers and experiences working on Star Wars and other projects, Daisy was asked by Adam about whether she likes to know her co-stars before working with them. Daisy indicated that she and Adam had briefly met sometime before. However, they actually became "besties" while working on 2017's The Last Jedi, which seems appropriate, given that both Daisy and Adam had a significant amount of screen time together and the development of their respective characters in that movie, especially compared to The Force Awakens. Adam once again praised her as being "very open" and signed off on the interview by telling her that she was "brilliant," high praise from one actor to another.

It was never asked, nor volunteered by either Daisy or Adam whether they ever shared a kiss off-screen like their characters, Rey and Ben, did at the end of The Rise of Skywalker. However, they both clearly developed a strong friendship with each other. Unfortunately, with the conclusion of the sequel trilogy, both actors have gone on to separate projects. However, many Star Wars fans continue to "ship" the relationship between their on-screen characters of Rey and Ben, with the hope that they might both eventually reunite with one another in some form in a future Star Wars story. Given their positive working relationship and on-screen chemistry exhibited in the sequel trilogy, particularly the final two films, I would not mind seeing Daisy and Adam reunite on-screen in a future Star Wars project or pretty much any kind of film project.
