The best lover I ever had was a cook. I developed a theory after that: skilled cooks make skilled lovers. I’ll tell you why.

Food and sex have been closely connected since the beginning of time. There’s nothing that gets people in the mood like a romantic candle-lit dinner for two, chocolate covered strawberries, or whipped cream (wink wink).

Not to mention that some foods are considered to be an aphrodisiacs, meaning they increase the sex drive and contribute to a positive mood. The science behind it is that those foods contains the chemical Phenylethylamine (let’s call it PEA). PEA creates a positive mood or a euphoria by releasing dopamine.

Guess when dopamine is also released? That’s right! When you fall in love. AND when you orgasm. Chocolate is one of the most common examples of a food with plenty of PEA. It’s no wonder people gift loved ones chocolate.

Not only does food help your brain release chemicals to get you in the mood, but cooking, like sex, is an art.

Skilled cooks use all five senses to create a delicious meal, just like skilled lovers use all five senses to please.

Sight

I’m all for impromptu, messy sex. But there’s something erotic about putting effort into it too. Lingerie stores know this, otherwise they’d be out of business. Just putting on a sexy bra and panty combo can fire up the sex drive. The same goes for men.

Maintaining your appearance, being groomed, it’s attractive. It adds to the sex appeal. Not to mention, the things we have little control over such as flushed cheeks and hardened nipples. Sight is a wonderful sense in the bedroom.

Sight is also important while making a meal. Being able to judge chicken or fish on when it’s perfectly seared. Knowing how the bread is supposed to look before pulling it from the oven. And then, there’s meal presentation which is an art form of itself. Skilled cooks pay attention to the visuals, both in and out of the bedroom.

Smell

Deodorant. A pleasant scent. Fresh breath. These are all imperative to a pleasing experience in the bedroom. Cooks know how the value of a pleasant scent.

The kitchen is a domain of heady scents in the fall, lighter scents in the summer. The comforting aroma of spices waft through the air, promising fulfillment.

When we smell good food, our mouths water, we crave it. The same goes for people. When your lover smells good, you crave them. Cooks are aware of this.

Touch

Texture is so important in cooking. Overcook meat — it’s tough. Overcook vegetables — they’re mushy. There’s a sweet spot and skilled cooks are able to feel that out. Not only that, but think about all of the things you use touch for in the kitchen. Shaping bread. Decorating desserts. Sprinkling spices into simmering soups.

Touch is equally important in the bedroom. A skilled lover knows when to be firm and when to be gentle. They know that a caress can be just as powerful as a well-placed slap.

Hearing

Have you ever try watching porn with the sound off? It’s just not as good. The same translates to the bedroom. There’s nothing more satisfying than pulling a moan or a gasp from your lover.

A skilled lover knows and values this, just like a skilled cook is attuned to the sounds in the kitchen. The soft sizzling in the pan. The popping of gourmet popcorn on the stove — there’s a fine line between done and burnt, after all.

Taste

Did you add too much salt? Or just enough? It always amazes me that cooks can sample just the tiniest taste of their creation and they know to add ⅛ teaspoon of oregano, a pinch of salt, and a bay leaf. How is that even possible??

Just as taste is important in the kitchen, so it is in the bedroom. Good sex tastes good. Kissing your lover’s lips, along with more intimate areas..taste is of the utmost importance.

Use All of Your Senses!

Skilled cooks use all five senses, they pay attention to the scents and textures and tastes of their meal. They listen. They watch. Really skilled cooks don’t even have to think about it, they just do it. It translates to the bedroom — how can it not?

If done well, cooking is a similar art form as making love. So, do yourself a favor, and kiss the cook!
