Paraphilias and Fetishes Definition

The fetishes definition, in modern language is almost interchangeable with that of paraphilias. However, these two terms do have slightly different meanings. Fetishes refers to a need for an object, body part or activity for sexual excitement; and two other definitions that aren’t even related to sexual desire. Paraphilias are sexual interests in atypical objects, situations, or individuals.

Many of the terms you find under paraphilias have become common enough that you would have surely heard of them by now. However, there are tons that I’m willing to bet you have never even thought would be real. Well, it’s time we take a look at some of these paraphilias and what they mean.

1. Voyeurism

Most people are familiar with the term, voyeurism nowadays. This is the act of watching others either nude or having sex. Typically, the person or persons being watched would be unaware of the voyeur observing them. Voyeurism may also be referred to by either scopophilia or scoptophilia. While common, this particular fetish can be considered rather creepy to some while being down right “vanilla” to others.

2. Omorashi

Certainly, on the scale of strange, Omorashi is a fetish of taking pleasure from either having a full bladder or wetting yourself. It is also applied to individuals who take pleasure in observing others with a full bladder or wetting themselves. Yes, you read that right. This term refers to people who either have to pee very badly, have peed on themselves, or enjoy watching someone else having to pee badly or having peed on themselves.

3. Necrophilia

Another one that most people have heard of at some point, Necrophilia, refers to people who take pleasure from sexual acts with corpses. In other words, someone who has Necrophilia takes pleasure from any “naughty” acts done to or with dead people. Yep… another creepy one. Also, just as a point of important note; necrophilia is also illegal.

4. Somnophilia

Somnophilia is the act of getting pleasure (usually sexual pleasure) from being naughty with others who are sleeping or unconscious. If you’ve ever been on an adult video site and noticed the videos of people having sex or “playing with” someone while they are supposedly asleep… yep, that would be this one. Again, this is another fetish that is actually illegal if you don’t have the person’s consent before hand.

5. Teratophilia

Referring to an attraction (sexual) to deformed or monstrous people. Teratophilia is also often used rather literally to refer to individuals who are sexually turned on or attracted to mythical creatures such as werewolves and other monster-like beings. Could the fanatics of Twilight suffer from Teratophilia? You be the judge.

6. Masochism

Another fetish that is a little more well known. Masochism is the fetish of getting sexual pleasure from being humiliated, beaten, or abused. Those who gain pleasure from bondage would also fall under this fetish. In common communication, this term is usually applied when referring to more extreme cases of these events giving someone pleasure or turning them on in some way.

7. Dacryphilia

Drama queens with this condition would be so happy! Dacryphilia is being turned on or getting sexual pleasure from crying or the actual tears. This can be gaining the pleasure from your own tears and crying or from those of others. Strange, but generally harmless.

8. Coprophilia

One of the most revolting fetishes (to most people); Coprophilia is the sexual pleasure of feces. In other words, this is someone who gets turned on or gains sexual pleasure from poop. This fetish is also known as Scat, Scatophilia, and Fecophilia.

9. Hybristophilia

This one is a bit of cause for concern too. Hybristophilia is being turned on or sexual pleasure associated with criminals. Usually referring to criminals that have committed crimes that were brutal or outrageous in nature. This is “liking the bad boys” taken to the extreme.

10. Autogynephilia

Now, a gender specific one. Autogynephilia refers to a man that is turned on or gets sexual pleasure from images or other depictions of himself as a female. One gender-altering filter and those with this fetish could masturbate to themselves. This is not associated with people who identify as transgender according to my research.

11. Piquerism

This one is both illegal and a cause for concern of mental health as well as physical health. Piquerism is gaining sexual pleasure or being turned on by cutting someone else’s flesh. It refers to someone who enjoys cutting someone, usually with a sharp object or even stabbing them. This one is disturbing and hopefully those who fall into this one will seek help.

12. Autoerotic Asphyxiation

Another dangerous fetish. Autoerotic Asphyxiation is getting sexual pleasure and being turned on by choking yourself. Those who fall into this fetish will often times choke themselves until the point of nearly passing out. This fetish can lead to major damage to a person’s throat as well as complications due to lack of oxygen to the brain.

13. Exhibitionism

Almost the opposite of a Voyeur, those who enjoy Exhibitionism gain sexual pleasure and are turned on by exposing their nude body to other people. Generally, the other person or persons are non-consenting and often even unsuspecting. Notably, it is often the specific exposure of the genitals that warrants Exhibitionism in a person. In other words, people who want to be seen naked or having sex, preferably by people who didn’t ask to see it.

14. Coulrophilia

This one is strange but harmless in most cases. Coulrophilia is being sexually attracted to and turned on by clowns, jesters, or mimes. Could be problematic at a child’s birthday party, but otherwise would be okay. A little strange, but hey… even clowns need love too, I guess.

15. Feederism

Not to be confused with the unhealthy “body positivity” movement of late, Feederism is the sexual attraction and arousal from eating, feeding, or weight gain. For obvious reasons, this fetish can become unhealthy very quickly when considering the weight gain aspect. Eating is required so if kept under control, it wouldn’t be harmful in this regard. Feeding could be unhealthy to person being fed, unless it could be channeled by feeding those who require assistance with daily tasks.

16. Forniphilia

This one is rather confusing, to be honest. Forniphilia is sexual attraction and getting turned on by turning a human being into a piece of furniture. Yes… really. I guess in some ways, a person with this fetish would rather have sex with a human bed than have sex with a human on a bed. Each to their own. This one doesn’t hurt anyone, so go for it.

17. Macrophilia

This fetish is a little sci-fi. This fetish refers to someone who is turned on or gets sexual pleasure from giant people or the imagined growth of any beings. Again, if you look on an adult video website and see the videos with the word, “giantess” in the title, those videos are for people with this fetish.

18. Anthropophagy

We come to another fetish that is both gross and illegal. Anthropophagy is sexual arousal or getting turned on by the consumption of human flesh. Yes, in other words, it refers to people who are turned on by cannibalism. If you aren’t grossed out or worried that there are actually people in the world with this fetish, try this: imagine being someone with this fetish and then that person performing oral sex on you. Would you be worried? I would!

19. Frotteurism

Illegal and immoral, Frotteurism refers to someone who gains sexual pleasure and arousal from rubbing up against someone who is not consenting. Rubbing up against someone who hasn’t given you permission to do so, is very illegal and also rather creepy. You’re not a cat… stop that!

20. Autassassinophilia

This is taking thrill seeking to the next level. Autassassinophilia refers to someone who gets turned on or gets sexual pleasure from being life threatening situations. It’s easy to imagine what types of career choices someone with this fetish might make. Other than that, this would be an unfortunate way to have to get your engine going.

21. Erotic Asphyxiation

Slight variation on a fetish discussed higher in the list, Erotic Asphyxiation is a fetish where individuals are turned on or get sexual gratification from someone choking them or from choking others. Basically, it is feeling naughty from having your air supply cut off or cutting off someone else’s air supply, so breathing isn’t possible for a while. Again, some people may do this to the point of almost passing out or actually passing out.

22. Emetophilia

This one may turn your stomach. Ironic considering that Emetophilia is the fetish of vomit. People with this fetish get sexual pleasure or are turned on by vomit. It could be the vomit (aka puke) itself or from vomiting or seeing others vomit. Guess this could come in handy for a night of drinking or partying. If your date vomits from drinking too much, it just helps you along. Gross, I know.

23. Hematolagnia

Hint… vampires may have this one. Yep, Hematolagnia is the fetish where someone gets aroused or sexual pleasure from looking at or drinking blood. It’s worth noting that this is another one that is very unhealthy and dangerous for the human body.

24. Urolagnia

Water sports anyone? Urolagnia is sexual arousal or sexual pleasure from urinating, urinating on someone else, or being urinated on. Simple terms: it’s people who sexually enjoy either peeing, peeing on someone, or when someone else pees on them. Surprisingly, this isn’t that unhealthy in most cases because urine exits the body rather sterile. I still wouldn’t recommend it, but if it’s your thing then you do you.

25. Formicophilia

Like bugs? Someone with Formicophilia REALLY likes them! Yep, this fetish refers to someone who gets turned on or sexual pleasure from being crawled on by insects. There is both, too much to say, and nothing more to say for this one.

26. Sexual Sadism

Think dominatrix. Sexual Sadism refers to someone who gains sexual pleasure or is turned on by inflicting pain other people. Gaining sexual pleasure from hurting someone is concerning, but everyone can find their match in the world. I truly believe that.

27. Gerontophilia

This fetish may get you banned from the nursing home. Gerontophilia is sexual arousal or sexual pleasure from elderly people. These are the people who only want the GILF or GFILF in the room. If the elderly person has all of their mental faculties, then this one is not illegal.

28. Objectophilia

Well, the word “object” is right in the name. Objectophilia is the fetish of people who get sexual pleasure and arousal of specific inanimate objects. No, really enjoying your vibrator does not mean you have an Objectophilia fetish. This would be a burning desire and need to want that specific inanimate object.

29. Eproctophilia

This might make you laugh. Eproctophilia is sexual arousal and sexual pleasure from flatulence. In simple terms, it is feeling very naughty and getting sexual feelings as the result of farts. Your farts, other people’s farts. Just an orgy of stinky gas. Strange and I guess if it is dangerous or not would depend greatly on how toxic your farts are.

30. Odaxelagnia

Another fetish for the vampires. Odaxelagnia is the fetish of experiencing sexual arousal or sexual pleasure from biting or being bitten. This one is far more common than you think and isn’t dangerous if both people are under control well enough. Playful biting or nibbling is okay, but often times those who have this fetish prefer the extreme situations. Everything in moderation is okay.

31. Klismaphilia

Brace yourself for this one. Klismaphilia is sexual arousal or sexual enjoyment from getting or giving enemas. Yes, the tube up your butt and shooting liquid meant to clean the poop out. It’s not secret that a lot of people get sexual pleasure from anal stimulation and even all out anal sex. Perhaps this would be tied to that. I’ll let you decide…or ignore. Your choice.

32. Plushophilia

Like stuffed animals? Not as much as those with Plushophilia. This is the sexual arousal and sexual pleasure from plush animals or “plushies.” Really not much else to say on this one. It is what it is and it doesn’t hurt anyone, so, sure.

33. Vorarephilia

Also known as “vore”, Vorarephilia is a sexual arousal or sexual pleasure from the sight or thought of either eating someone or someone being eaten. Typically, the person or persons in this “fantasy” of the fetish is eaten whole. Eating your woman is a good idea, but that’s not what they mean. Just saying, it’s something to think about. As long as nobody tries to do this in real life, then you do you.

34. Apotemnophilia

Apotemnophilia is sexual arousal or sexual pleasure from being an amputee. In simple terms, this is someone who gets sexual feelings or sexual pleasure from having had a body part surgically removed. Based on the research, this pertains to the person with the fetish being an amputee and not other people who are. That would be a different fetish.

35. Dendrophilia

Now, we take “nature lover” to a new extreme. Dendrophilia is someone who is sexually aroused or gets sexual pleasure from trees. I guess the desire for something long and hard goes a little further for some people. I was going to say that this one doesn’t hurt anyone, so you do you, again. However, I’m pretty sure that acting out any sexual act with a tree would be both painful and harmful. Well, good luck if this is you.

36. Autonepiophilia

Oh baby! Autonepiophilia is sexual arousal toward the sight or image of yourself as an infant. There are way too many aspects of this to unlock that disturb me. However, it exists and now you know that it does too. Seeing a picture, video, or mental image of yourself as an infant turns you on… that’s what we are saying here.

37. Chronophilia

Age is just a number, right? Chronophilia is sexual arousal or sexual pleasure from having a partner (or partners) of a widely different chronological age. In other words, having partners that are way older or way younger than you, turns you on beyond belief. Hopefully, people with this fetish still keep it within legal age limits, but other than that… sure, go for it.

38. Partialism

This one is rated G compared to most on this list. Partialism is the sexual attraction and getting a lot of sexual pleasure from body parts that are anything other than genitals. Those with a foot fetish would also fall under this category of fetish. This can be normal or strange; depending on which body part turns you on that much I suppose.

39. Acrotomophilia

The other side of Apotemnophilia. Acrotomophilia is the sexual arousal or sexual pleasure from other people with amputations. This is an individual who gets off on seeing or being with someone who has had a part of their body surgically removed.

40. Microphilia

It has “micro” in the name, so you know what’s coming. Microphilia is the sexual arousal or sexual pleasure of very small people or very small body parts. It is unclear how small the person or body part has to be in order to be considered part of this fetish, but I’m sure you get the idea.

41. Trichophilia

There is no clever way to say this really, so here we go. Trichophilia is the sexual arousal and sexual pleasure for hair. It’s safe to assume that the hair doesn’t have to be on a person’s head to spark someone with this fetish’s interest, but who knows. Yep… getting your rocks off to hair. There you go.

42. Olfactophilia

This one can be okay on one side and gross on the other. Olfactophilia is the fetish of being very turned on or getting sexual pleasure from smells and odors that come from the body. Everyone is attracted by pheromones but this one includes: breath, urine, poop, and even farts. Extreme sexual attraction to two or more of these.

43. Erotophonophilia

So disturbing! Erotophonophilia is extreme sexual attraction or sexual pleasure from murder. More specifically, it is usually the murder of strangers. This fetish is also known as, Dacnolagnomania. No matter what you call it, this one is very disturbing and is a direct connection between sexual attraction and illegal taking of life. Run!

44. Lactophilia

This is exactly what you think it is. Lactophilia is sexual attraction, arousal, and sexual pleasure from breast milk. Breasts are great, but this fetish only wants it if it is full of nature’s milk. I guess someone with Autonepiophilia and Lactophilia would have the whole package to someone out there.

45. Podophilia

In two words, “foot fetish.” Podophilia is a sexual attraction or sexual pleasure for feet. This is perhaps one of the most common fetishes in the world today. It’s harmless and so common that most people probably won’t look at you funny if they know you have it. I personally never understood the appeal of it, but if this is you then go for it.

46. Maiesiophilia

Also known as having a “pregnancy fetish.” Maiesiophilia is the extreme sexual attraction or sexual pleasure an individual gets from pregnant women. Of course, for the fetish, it would be this extreme reaction to only pregnant women. This is great if it is your wife, or at least your girlfriend. Maybe not such a good thing if it’s someone else’s wife or girlfriend. It exists. Now you know.

47. Sthenolagnia

Evolution and biology dictate this makes sense in a lot of cases. Sthenolagnia is an extreme sexual arousal or sexual pleasure from muscles or displays of strength. This would likely be more common in females and perhaps gay men. Just a theory. There go, this is someone looking for the winner of the strong man or strong woman contest.

48. Metrophilia

As a writer, I’m glad this one exists. Metrophilia is sexual arousal or sexual pleasure of poetry. Poetry can always be a romantic thing, but those with this fetish will be instantly good to go with the right rhymes and word meanings.

49. Agalmatophilia

Remember the mannequins challenge? I bet those with this fetish do! Agalmatophilia is an extreme sexual attraction or sexual pleasure from mannequins, statues, or immobility. Most people don’t like it if you just lay there and do-nothing during sex… this fetish longs for it. Going to a Roman or Greek museum must be like going to a brothel for those with this one.

50. Stigmatophilia

If you have a fetish for tattoos or body piercings, then you may have a Stigmatophilia fetish. Yes, this is an extreme sexual arousal or sexual pleasure of body piercings or tattoos. Uh… enough said.

51. Transvestic Fetishism

Formally knowns as “cross-dressing” and also known as “transvestism.” Transvestic Fetishism is a fetish for wearing the clothes of the opposite gender. In other words, this is a man wanting to wear women’s clothes or a woman wanting to wear men’s clothes.

52. Crurophilia

The fetish of the leg man. Yep, Crurophilia is the extreme sexual arousal or sexual pleasure over legs. Liking a person’s legs doesn’t mean you have this fetish. Being obsessed with someone’s legs and getting extremely turned on by them, means you may want to look into it.

53. Mechanophilia

Of course, there had to be a technology one. Mechanophilia is a fetish over cars or machines. These are individuals that get a strong sexual pleasure or very turned on by vehicles or by other machines.

54. Paraphilic Infantilism

Also known as “autonepiophilia.” Paraphilic Infantilism is the fetish of being dressed as or being treated like a baby. This is very connected to diaper fetishism and is often referred to as “adult baby syndrome.”

55. Troilism

Think cuckold. Troilism is the sexual fetish where an individual gets sexual pleasure or extremely turned on by watching their partner do naughty things with someone else. Sometimes it is your partner having sex with someone you may or may not know. Sometimes it is watching your partner just “playing” with someone else. Another example of this fetish would be tying into the swinger lifestyle as well.

56. Algolagnia

Algolagnia is a fetish for someone who gets very turned on or gets sexual pleasure from pain. Typically, the pain is brought to an erogenous zone of the body. This one is different than masochism due to the intense sensation being interpreted biologically rather than subjectively.

57. Menophilia

Some really do consider that ‘delightful time of the month.’ Menophilia is sexual arousal or sexual pleasure from a woman’s menstruation. Could be a woman with her own and other women’s. Could be a guy obsessed with it. Either way… it’s a little disturbing to most people. As I keep saying though; you do you.

58. Pygophilia

Who doesn’t love a good ass? Pygophilia is the sexual arousal or sexual pleasure taken from butts. This is the fetish version of being obsessed with people’s asses. Beyond being a “butt man” or “butt woman” this is the outright burning desire for the rear end of a person.

59. Symphorophilia

Another one that is disturbing. Symphorophilia is having a fetish of witnessing or staging disasters. Car accidents, plane crashes, fires, and tons of other things… it all gets these people going. They love to watch and some love to create these situations. Sexual fetish at one of it’s most dangerous moments.

60. Zoosadism

Those with this fetish are on my shit list. Zoosadism is a fetish where a person gets sexual pleasure or extreme arousal from hurting animals. Like I said… on my shit list. This is also illegal on top of being just messed up and wrong.

61. Gynandromorphophilia

Also known as Gynemimetophilia. Gynandromorphophilia is a fetish for transgender women. This fetish refers to people who have an extreme sexual attraction to men who choose to become women thru surgery and hormone therapy. Not all transgender people opt for both of these, but this term may still apply to someone who experiences the strong sexual attraction and desire specifically aimed toward trans-women.

62. Narratophilia

This one would be easy to get pleasure from. Narratophilia is the strong sexual attraction or sexual pleasure from obscene words. To turn on someone with this fetish, you need only cuss or use language that most people don’t consider proper in public places.

63. Abasiophilia

Abasiophilia is the fetish for people with impaired mobility. Anyone with this fetish would have a strong sexual attraction and get sexual pleasure from being with a person in a wheelchair, or any other condition or situation that rendered that person unable to move well or normally.

64. Maschalagnia

Another body part related fetish. Maschalagnia refers to someone with a fetish for armpits. Yep, a strong sexual attraction or preference of sexual pleasure in regard to a partner’s armpits.

65. Biastophilia

Possibly triggering. Biastophilia also known as Raptophilia is the fetish for rape. Typically, this refers to those with rape fantasy and not the actual being a victim of such a horrible crime. This is not dangerous as long as it is a consensual rape fantasy roleplay between two people who care about each other. Actual rape is a good argument for bringing back medieval forms of torture and execution.

66. Asphyxiophilia

This fetish is familiar to others on this list. Asphyxiophilia is the fetish for being strangled or asphyxiated. These are the “choke me harder” lovers that we have either heard of or have been with. This, obviously, can be very dangerous if taken too far and not controlled. In case you’re not aware… oxygen is important. Play well but play carefully.

67. Salirophilia

This one is socially strange but harmless overall. Sailirophilia is a fetish for soiling or dirtying other people. This is getting sexual arousal or sexual pleasure from the act of making other people dirty; basically.

68. Capnolagnia

The fetish horrible for your lungs. Capnolagnia is the fetish for smoking. Typically, this would be a potential partner smoking a cigarette, but smoking anything would still fit. In other words, someone with this fetish gets sexually aroused or sexual pleasure from seeing someone smoking or in some cases, from themselves smoking. Another fetish with plenty of videos on adult sites as well.

69. Autoplushophilia

Strange. Enough said. Autoplushophilia is the fetish over seeing an image of yourself as a plush or other non-living soft and cuddly animal. The person with the fetish gets sexual pleasure or gets extremely turned on by seeing an image of themselves as an anthropomorphized animal or a plush animal. Wonder how much time someone with this fetish spends on Snapchat using filters.

70. Autovampirism

Autovampirism or just Vampirism, is the fetish of getting sexual pleasure or great sexual arousal by seeing yourself as a vampire. Typically, this would include seeing your own blood and possibly even swallowing your own blood. This is unsafe medically, but many fetishes do not consider safety or health.

71. Telephone Scatologia

Also known as telephonicophilia and scatophiliac. Telephone Scatologia is the fetish for obscene phone calls. Typically, this involves obscene phone calls with strangers. Phone sex anyone?

72. Melolagnia

Harmless and soothing to the ear. Melolagnia is the fetish for music. Music is always good for setting the right mood, but those with this fetish take it to a whole new level.

73. Hoplophilia

Armed and Horny. Hoplophilia is the fetish for firearms and guns. Those with this fetish get sexual pleasure or sexually turned on by everything guns and firearms. Be proud Americans… those among our country’s population with this fetish have the Constitutional right to get horny.

74. Sophophilia

Horny studying? Sophophilia is the fetish for learning. The more these individuals learn, the more turned on and sexually pleased they may be. Improving yourself while playing with yourself; good deal.

75. Diaper Fetishism

Just what it sounds like. Diaper Fetishism is a fetish for diapers. This fetish goes well with those who have fetishes involving the concept of being a baby or infant. Bright side: when they get off, they have a diaper on to catch the mess.

76. Andromimetophilia

Andromimetophilia refers to someone with a fetish for transgender men. In other words, a person with this fetish feels extreme sexual attraction or sexual pleasure from being with a woman who has chosen to become a man via surgery or hormones. Not all transgender men opt for these, however, often times this is the case.

77. Navel Fetishism

Another fetish that is what it sounds like. Navel Fetishism is having a fetish for navels. These individuals experience sexual arousal or sexual pleasure from the human belly button (aka navel).

78. Kleptophilia

Also known as kleptolagnia. This is a fetish for stealing. Yes, a person with this fetish experiences sexual arousal or sexual pleasure from stealing. Obviously, this is another fetish that is illegal to participate in.

79. Wet and Messy Fetishism

Food fight! Wet and Messy Fetishism refers to individuals who experience sexual pleasure or get extremely turned on by being messy. If these people are pied, play in the mud or get a mud wrap, have slime dumped on their head, or anything of that nature… they’re ready to go. This fetish would be fairly harmless, though perhaps very socially unacceptable in a lot of cases or situations. Food play can always be a great way to spice things up, but those with this fetish would really enjoy chocolate syrup or whip cream in the bedroom. It’s unclear from my research how messy it has to be for them to reach fetish level, but I would assume the messier the better either way.

80. Anthropophagolagnia

So specific and so very disturbing! Anthropophagolagnia is a fetish for raping someone and then eating that person. Not “eating” in the sexy way either… actually chewing and digesting the person after you rape them. Like I said… so specific and so very disturbing!

81. Autopedophilia

Not as illegal and horrible as you may think at first. Autopedophilia refers to someone who gets sexual arousal or sexual pleasure from images of themselves as a child. Strange, but at least they stay away from actual kids. Still disturbing though.

82. Autagonistophilia

Want-to-be star! Autagonistophilia refers to someone who gets sexual arousal or sexual pleasure from being on camera or on stage. Acting meets masturbation without the public even knowing. Harmless I suppose, though too many layers of strange to really think about.

83. Pictophilia

Common fetish but not commonly talked about. Pictophilia is someone who has a fetish for pornography or erotic art. In recent times I’m sure this fetish has gotten more common and has a lot of people on the border of having it. Remember… moderation is key to anything.

84. Anililagnia

Cougar and MILF bait. Anililagnia refers to young men who primarily or solely are turned on by older women. These are young men that only want to sleep with older women. As long as the person with one is at least 18 years old, then no harm and I say go for it.

85. Toxophilia

Robinhood’s dream woman! Toxophilia is a fetish for archery. Yes, really. Draw back the bow and let the libido fly.

86. Autozoophilia

Zoo of one. Autozoophilia is a fetish of someone who is turned on or sexually pleased with images of themselves as an anthropomorphized or actual animal. People who want to see themselves portrayed as an animal of some kind visually… and will get sexually charged by it.

87. Kleptolagnia

As mentioned before, this is another name for someone with a Kleptophilia fetish. This person would be turned on by stealing and thievery. Illegal but it exists.

88. Heterophilia

A little complicated. Heterophilia is when someone, typically non-heterosexual people, idealize the concept or people that are “straight-acting” or their idea of what a straight person is.
