The Kingdom of Dragon Riders

There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. I remember the day when they first landed with their riders. We were just a small village with about five hundred people, not enough to be called a town. We rarely had travelers due to our area. Never ending dark forest full of cursed creatures on the east side, mountains that climb to the clouds on the north and south side, and a fierce river that will pull even the most experienced swimmers under, running on the west side. That’s why it was unexpected that they would land here.

It started off with two, both injured and unable to fly over the mountains. The riders themselves were close to death, starving and devoid of the mana necessary for them to live. We have heard of Dragon Riders, but they were part of the legends we would tell to our children to pass on their children. We haven’t seen one since the fall of their kingdom, Yuxnor. That was almost three hundred years ago, so where did these come from?

Afraid of the dragons when they landed, we asked the riders if they could move their dragons further away from our village. The riders did not respond and that’s when we realized both riders and dragons were near death and unconscious. As the village chief, I quickly made the decision to save them. Even if the dragons could attack us, they are part of the greatest legends to exist across the continent. I ask for the bravest villagers to help our healer save them. Six people volunteered. Two of the volunteers climbed onto one of the dragons and the other two climbed the other dragon to pull the riders off only to discover that both of the riders were female.

This came as a shock as our legends have told of riders being men as females are physically incapable of riding dragons due to the speed and height dragons would reach. Instead, we are faced with two female riders and dragons from the legends. Is it just them though or are there more riders out there that are female? We will have to ask when the riders recover. Hopefully the dragons will understand we are trying to heal them.

The only question is… how do we heal the dragons? Yuxnor was secretive about the workings of their kingdom. We only heard of their mass wealth, the kingdoms they conquered, and the evils they defeated. Never have they mentioned how the dragon riders came about or how they would care for the dragons. We don’t even know how they communicate with them. For now, the agreement was to care for the riders first and hopefully they will wake up in time to let us know how to heal the dragons.

Three days have passed and the dragons seem to be in a stagnant state, neither alive nor dead. The riders themselves also have not woken up, but they are healing. It seems as if they are all in sync. We never expected this. It only leads to more questions about them. Are they bonded with their riders? Are they a pair? Does this help them heal? Where did they exactly come from? When will they wake up? What do the dragons eat? Hopefully they’re omnivores.

The biggest questions we really want to ask is though… Who did this to them? What were they escaping from? Why did they land in our valley? What are they looking for? It didn’t seem like an accident that they specifically landed here. If anything, it look like they were searching for us.

Unfortunately, until they wake up, we are playing a game of patience. Hopefully, nothing will happen before they do. Whoever or whatever that was actually able to hurt them will not find them beforehand. Otherwise… This village will become a graveyard and we will all perish.
