Three monstrosities burst through the corridor's ramshackle barriers.
The point marines emptied their miniguns into the grotesque things, disintegrating two in a cloud of puss and blood-colored viscera. The third breached the line, and Gunnarsson watched tentacled arms rip the power-armored marines in half.
The thin stretch of concrete floor offered as much resistance as the remaining marines did. Still, Gunnarsson fired until his rifle ran dry.
A tentacle lashed out and threw him against the wall as the monstrosity assaulted the containment unit– humanity's entire gambit hanging on by millimeters of steel.
Gunnarsson charged with desperate fury.
He was too late. Not four paces away, the containment unit split open.
The world around Gunnarsson went opaque.
