Near, Willow Beach was a forest.

Old Man Willow:1

1000 years ago Old Man Willow was the only tree near Willow Beach. That’s why it was called Willow Beach.

He withstood the change of tides. Sometimes the tide will come in strong to the beach shoreline like a roaring lion. Old Man Willow did not falter no matter what the tide brought in.

The tide receding to the sea. Ten feet from the shorelines are trees of the forest that guard against the roaring tides of time. Old Man Willow was in the middle surrounded by the younger trees.

The Legend Of The Willow Beach Forest:2

When Old Man Willow was ten years old, The Roaring Lion Tide would challenge him for control of the shoreline. Old Man Willow had enough brawn in him to suck the whole ocean. That stopped the tide from ever trying to take over Willow Beach.

Old Man Willow invited tree seedlings to plant themselves near Willow Beach and that’s how Willow Beach Forest was created near the beach. Every ten years the Tide would challenge the Willow tree and each time the tree would defeat the Tide, time and time again.

Roaring Lion Tide: 3

“I will beat that Old Man Willow. The time will come when I will be a Tsunami and no tree can ever Challenge me. I will destroy Willow Beach Forest until there are no more trees or living creatures dwelling there.” The Roaring Lion Tide promised to himself.

He searched far and wide into the deep ocean on how to be a Tsunami.

Roaring Lion Tide was practicing to be a Tsunami in Lituya Bay, Alaska in the summer of July 1958 when he cleared thousands of trees. He was ready for battle to go back to Willow Beach, be a Tsunami, and kill all the trees in Willow Beach Forest.

Roaring Lion Tide was not so smart that he could not recreate a tsunami when he got to Willow Beach shoreline.

He arrived at Willow Beach when it was half-moon phase and he was just neap tide. He was not a roaring lion tide. All the trees laughed at how small he was.

“We thought you were coming back as a great tsunami.” The trees in the Willow Beach Forest just shook with laughter, and their branches pointed right at the neap tide.

A Nipa Hut Was Built On Willow Beach: 4

Two people landed on the shore of Willow Beach. They were female and male teenagers. Their boat capsized from the Storm. Roaring Lion Tide thought this was his chance to destroy the Willow Beach Forest trees.

The trees allowed their branches to snap off to save the two teenagers from drowning in the ocean. The branches brought the two teenagers to shore. They used the tree branches and leaves to build their hut after they recovered from being washed on shore.

The teenagers Katz and Stan lived as husband and wife on the beach and had little ones. Their little ones came to the forest, climbed on Old Man Willow, and listened to his whisper legend tales of the Willow Beach Forest and the Lion Roaring Tide.

The family that lived in the Nipa hut on Willow Beach knew to run to the Willow Beach Forest when The roaring Tidal Wave tried to destroy their Nipa hut on the beach. The Nipa hut was strong and withstand the Tidal waves because it was made from the strong trees of the Willow Beach Forest.

The family in the Nipa hut stayed on Willow Beach for many years because they were well provided and taken good care of by the Willow Beach Forest Trees for generations to come.

The tides change every day….

Love this! And I cheer for Old Man Willow!! Good luck in the contest!

  • Expressed so perfectly in a classic legends style. I take it Roaring Lion Tide never figured out that tsunamis are not created by tides but rather by earthquakes beneath the ocean.

  • That was excellent

  • This was excellent , love it
