The Prompt

Write a story about a coven. The first line must be a spell.

It is also the sixth instalment in my " The Sandman and The Sea Girl" series which you can read here. This follows on from the fifth story in the series.

The music is a version of King Crimson's "Lady Of The Dancing Water" from the album "Lizard" sung by computer. I was unaware of the song until I looked for a musical piece for this story.

A Visit

The Sea Girl left home. She was going to ask the sorceress if her parents could come to see the dragons but firstly she needed to visit the Sandman as she was still a little nervous about visiting the Sorceress on her own.

She came to the Sandman's home and, as always, she showed respect, by knocking, and as always he showed his curmudgeonly side by telling her she was disturbing his day, but he invited her in as he always did, and put the kettle on.

They were to have tea.

He knew she wanted to visit the Sorceress but told the Sand Girl, that the Sorceress was worried because she had not heard from her sister, The Lady of the Dancing Water. The Dancing Water was a waterfall in teh forest where her sister lived, but the last two times that the Sorceress had visited she was not there and there were no messages, not even by Owl or Raven.

The Sorceress and The Lady Of The Dancing Water were both Witches and they were the last members of a Coven on Thirteen. The other Witches had served their time in this realm and drifted on, and the Sorceress was worried that she would be left alone.

Sandman: "She is casting a finding spell so she may be taken up by that when we visit, so give her respect and time"

Sea Girl: "I will, but she won't be alone, because she has us , her Owl, and the forest creatures"

Sandman: "Ah but we are not family, or Witches, we are just her friends. Come on let's go, and see if she has discovered anything"

To See The Sorceress

They came to the forest and followed the path to the house of the Sorceress, the Sandman was about to knock and the door opened. There was magic here for sure. The Sea Girl looked in wonder.

The Sorceress was chanting, her Owl close by. The Sandman and Sea Girl waited respectfully getting lost in the magical song of the spell the Sorceress was weaving.

They knew how much she loved her sister, and how much all the sisters of the Coven felt for each other.

The chanting finished and she called them over.

In front of her was a viewing bowl, a magical bowl filled with blessed water, and slowly an image appeared of a woman below a waterfall in a forest.

Sorceress: "That was my sister at home, she loves the waterfall and all of nature, but she is no longer there, I hope the viewing bowl will now tell us where she is and what I need to do"

The viewing bowl clouded and cleared and then an image was slowly revealed. It was The Lady of The Dancing Water but the Sorceress was not sure where she was. Then they spoke:

Sorceress: "Where are you? Is there anything wrong? Why could I not find you?"

The Lady: "I have been held under a glamour by a spiteful Black Wizard, but he is just a man, so could not weave a spell to hold me for long. He hoped that when the spell wore of I would stay subservient to him. Pah! When it weakened I hit him with a spell to destroy his own spell casting abilities so he can never haem a Witch or Woman ever again. You cannot trust any man can you?"

The Sorceress looked at the Sandman and gave him a wry smile. The Sea Girl giggled when she saw that.

Sorceress: "Are you alright, when can I come and see you?"

The Lady: "In a few days, though I may come and see you too. Who is with you?"

Sorceress: "Two friends, a man and a girl"

The Lady: "Ah it#s Sandman, a male exception, who is the girl?"

Sorceress: "She is teh Sand Girl and friend and protege of Sandman, they visit quite often, she is still learning"

The Lady: "Lovely, I would love you all to visit, young lady would you like to learn more of the ways of our sisterhood?"

The Sea Gorl looked shocked, The Sandman and Sorceress both smiled.

Sea Girl: "To be a Witch, like you and the Sorceress?"

The Lady: "Many of our sisters have moved on, and we love to maintain our numbers to keep us strong, so yes. You are obviously loved and respected, but we will talk more when you come to visit"

Sorceress: "It takes many years, in fact a lifetime and more, but you are never too young to start and you will have the love and encouragement of the best teachers, us!!!

Sea Girl - to the Sandman: "Should I? Do you think I can do it?"

Sandman: "I know you can do it, but you must discuss it with your parents first"

Sea Girl: "What if they won't let me?"

Sandman: "You know you can charm them, you have always had that. You charmed me, and the Sorceress, and if they are awkward then you can tell them they won't get to see the Dragons can't you?"

Sea Girl to the Sorceress: "Can my parents come and see the Dragons, that was part of the reason we came, and I would love to learn from you and The Lady"

Sorceress: "Of course, and then they can see one of the places that you will learn your craft to help others, which I know will please them.

The Lady Of The Dancing Water was returning and the Sea Girl was to be apprenticed as a Witch. The day had, from a worrying start, turned out well for everyone involved.

The Sea Girl was looking forward to meeting The Lady of The Dancing Water in person and seeing the Dancing Water as well.

She had so much to tell her parents and the Dog and Cats.

She was about to start and amazing journey.
