The Sadistic Mr. Fox
Smile and the whole world believes it.
With inner silence he rejoices in the misery and pain of others. Outwardly, empathy oozes from him like slug slime.
Last night's fire in the low-income housing block, and yesterday’s mass shooting was damn near orgasmic.
Glancing to his right, thoughts of piercing a dagger into the woman's heart thrills the shit out of him. He shoots her a smile instead.
He glares, as a man points a finger at him and mouths the words …three…two…one.
With a practiced solemn pseudo grin, he begins.
“Good evening, and welcome to the six o’clock news. Four dead as tragedy struck….”

Great story especially the title!
Nice story! After writing a very dark story myself this week, now feel comforted that it might fit in here lol. And your first paragraph sings narcissistic personality disorder. I've known a few journalists, pleasant calm rational people, that hope for epic chaos tomorrow in order to win their pulitzers. The irony!.
Should I be worried because I resonated with him? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Awesome story! Congratulations on your Top Story!
Tips anyone please ? 🥹🫶❤️
Wow- what a twist! Superb!
this is so ironic. i was watching a newscast today and thinking what is that anchor hiding? hopefully not this! awesome story!!!!👏👏👏👏
That was so good! I'm not sure how newscasters manage it sometimes. I'm sure there are couple like this nice fella. Well done and congratulations on Top story ❤️
Well done! You have me in wide-eyed awe right now.
Made me think of Joker, but less honest! Talking heads are rarely honest.
Oh wow. You hit it on the nose with that one. All about ratings, right? That was extremely well done!
Okay, you got my attention. Don't forget the apostrophe with 'last night's fire'. :/
Wow! This has everything you can ask for in a micro piece. Excellent work and congrats, J.
Great story!
Great twist!! What a thrilling short fiction piece 😯
Excellent work congratulations on your Top Story
Ahh Jason, ya got me with that one, my son. Nice work and a well deserved TS! As a P.S., I hate to admit this, but lately, I find myself tuning in to the early Monday morning cable news to catch the latest tally from the previous weekend's incidents. Sad,eh?
Very well crafted micro piece! I had to go back to get the full impact—a sign that it has great subtext. The image was a good red herring and hook, got to the core feeling immediately, and established a satisfying twist. Congrats! It was a fun read.
BIG message in a small story - You nailed it, Jason! Absolutely fantastic!! Congratulations on Top Story!
I really like this, and I love the suspense at the end.
👏👏 I am so glad this one got TS!!
https://youtu.be/D1xmXn7gLVg Great job!! Definitely deserves top story! Reminds me of the Don Henley song
Have that Fox News.
Really enjoyed this J. Glad it's a TS.
Well well well! I may be reading too much into this but I applaud the mirror image and allusions in your work. Well done and congratulations on your Top Story!
Yowzer! This is great! 🥰 Congratulations 🥇
