Like a ghost in the night, I hear it most nights. The peaceful hooting that rocks me to sleep. My protector is back looking after me and the world, while we try to sleep and rest. The darkness worries and disturbs us, but it is here to make us lay down to find some rest and sleep.

Lilith the first woman according to some tradition is closely associated with owls. Accident of translation maybe or closeness to nature and the first of the animal totem carrier. Lilith the bird-woman takes off at will and leaves her well-defined space to explore a truth that calls her name.

Lilith is the harbinger of the female free to move and love and live. The owl takes off into the night and only the distance tells its song. Lilith is the woman who does not settle in parameters set for her by traditions and lives lived before her. Traditions and rules, she escapes at her own risk. She stands up and refuses to play by what does not make her whole.

Her future is other and unknown. It is not a road travelled by many but a route she must make for herself as she steps off the well-beaten track. Easier to stay behind and accept the consensus. Once taken off, she is on her own. To go where she pleases and think her thoughts. Till she finds a place where she is safe to break the soil and slowly lets new roots grow.

Walking her journey like a free spirit, curious and ready to learn. Accepting what life will throw at her and coping with the difficulties. Not despair nor cry just be herself in the sunshine of the early morning. Receiving the rain as a reward for her choices to help grow the seeds that make up her new beginnings.

Once you step off the frame. You are on your own. There are no rules but there is no manual either. You walk away but it is a lonely walk. As the owl, you live in the dark not knowing what will befall you and from which side the attack might come. You have all your senses active ready for action. At the ready and prepared for defence, Lilith wanders forthwith.

Your reasons and justifications are an arm long and you drone them out to each and sundry until you learn that to keep your peace makes it all better and helps you to wave off the adversary. Do not give others room for manoeuvre and just smile and be you. It is all that is asked and all we need to know. Your life is yours and nothing else matters.

As an owl, you sing to yourself, and your endeavour is a lesson to many. Open your horizon and who knows what you will see. Sing to the night and who knows will hear you and take you as an example to grow wings too and wanders off into the darkness that is the unknown. Leaving behind a world that does not fit them or in which they find no place, but they have sensed an outside waiting for them. All that was needed was a groundbreaker for them to step up.

Lilith stays in the background and lets her mane flowing in the wind. She lives in the night when the world rests. She has on her side, the freedom to not be bothered and questioned. Always walk on and let yourself take off and fly. In the night we are all more the same and more human if together in our corners we hum our song as an echo to the night owl, which teased us out of our everyday and our misery.
