The Green Lamp

Magical Green Light

The room was dark and felt slightly damp. I sat in a circle on the floor with my friends around me. In the middle was a lamp. It looked like a lava lamp, but had no cord, just an on/off switch near the bottom of the base.

"Everyone ready?" asked my friend, Jake.

We all looked around nervously but nodded.

"Ok, here we go!"

Jake switched on the light. A soft green glow illuminated from the lamp. At first nothing happened, but soon enough the entire room filled with the green glow and a light fog enveloped my group of friends. We all gasped as a cold breeze went through the room.

Then suddenly, the fog lifted and the green light disappeared. We were no longer in the basement of Jake's house though. We had been transported to the middle of a busy city. Traffic bustled around us, as we starred about in confusion.

"Where are we?" Sarah questioned.

"I don't know yet," Jake replied. "The light takes us to different places each time. We have no control over what the adventure will be. We just know that there will be one."

After wondering around for a bit, we realized we were in New York City. The Big Apple. Now what? Jake was the only one who had gone on this trip before. He'd only decided today to let his friends join in on what he called the time of his life.

Jake explained that there would be some sort of mission for them to accomplish in order to get back home. To find out what the mission would be, they just had to look around and it would present itself to them.

It was a dreary day and the the wind suddenly kicked up. I found myself being hit in the head by a rogue umbrella. One of my friends, Jane, picked it up as it bounced off my head.

"Oh, look!" She cried. "There's a note inside!"

Sure enough, taped inside the umbrella was an envelope. I pulled it off, opened it and started reading;

"In order to return to your home base, please complete this scavenger hunt/adventures.

1. Take a yellow cab to Central Park

2. Find a horse drawn carriage and take a ride around Central Park

3. Go to Time Square-buy three souvenirs from three different shops

4. Visit the Empire State Building

5. Visit the World Trade Center Museum.

6. Have dinner a restaurant of your choice

Once the list is completed, the green lamp will appear and transport you home"

Cheers went through my friends. A fun time in New York, seeing the sights, spending time together!

Our group spent the day accomplishing the tasks and exploring the city. We each bought t shirts as one of our souvenirs and changed into them for the remainder of our trip.

We settled on dinner at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. As we ate, we talked about the day and how great it had been. Just as the waitress left with the check, fully paid, the lamp appeared on the middle of the table.

Jake switched the button to on and the restaurant filled with smoke and green light. Moments later, we were back in his basement again.

We were memorized. How could a little green lamp with a vibrant green light take us to other places? We didn't know, but we looked forward to our next adventure and Jake agreed to take us whenever we wanted!
