Jacob Malden huddled in the trench, death gnawing at the sections’ humble protection–staying place an act of suicide while bellowing his orders an unholy fratricide.
But the whistles from those hollow men above came all the same.
He pulled himself over the top with all his remaining courage, No Man’s land spreading out in an endless hellscape before him. Bullets tore toward him and his soldiers.
He fired his pistol toward the Huns.
The streets of Tehran pieced themselves back together before, and his ears filled with screams of scattering crowds.
Jacob dropped his pistol and ran toward the train.
