For months, Detective Tom had been engaged in a prominent case. The main suspect, a prominent guns dealer by the name of Alexei, had been located and apprehended by him at last. But there was a problem. Tom couldn’t get rid of the notion that the situation was more complicated than it appeared.

In the questioning room, Tom sat across from Alexei and tried to elicit a response from him. “Alexei, tell me, for whom are you working?” Tom enquired.

I work for myself,” Alexei said with a calm demeanour.

Tom leaned closer, “I find that hard to believe,” he murmured. “You operate as a side dealer. The kinds of operations you’ve been involved in wouldn’t be possible with your current financial situation. Who is supporting you?”

Alexei grinned, displaying a gorgeous set of pearly white teeth. You won’t ever find out, he said.

Tom exited the questioning area in frustration. He made the decision to go for a stroll to calm himself. He knew the man as he passed him on the street. That was Mark, an old acquaintance of his.

Tom, hello! Long long no see,” Mark replied, greeting him heartily.

Tom was taken aback when he saw Mark. They hadn’t talked in a long time. Why are you in this location? Tom enquired.

“I’m travelling for work. I’m a security consultant “Mark answered.

Tom arched his brow. What sort of security is it?

Mark held back. “I’m not sure, actually. It is restricted.

Tom had a bad feeling. Are you a part of the case that I’m working on?

Shaking his head, Mark. “No, I promise. I don’t participate in anything like.”

Tom didn’t agree with him, but he didn’t challenge him. He said Mark farewell and went on his way.

Tom became aware of something nagging him about the case as he continued to move. He wasn’t sure what it was, but he had the impression that something was out of place. It suddenly dawned on him. Back at the police station, he ran quickly.

When he got there, he sprinted to the room where Alexei was being questioned. The guards were startled as he burst in.

You’re a double agent, Alexei, I say. Tom shouted.

Alexei chuckled.”Detective, it’s too late for you. My work here is finished.

Tom was perplexed. What are you referring to?

I was hired by your friend Mark to work for his security company. He has always been my supporter “Alexei stated.

Tom was in awe. “It is not feasible. Mark would never take such a step.”

Alexander shrugged. You’d be astonished at what individuals would do in times of need.

Tom acknowledged Alexei’s validity. Mark has been having money problems for a long time. To obtain the funds required to salvage his business, he must have struck a deal with Alexei.

Tom found it hard to believe. His own friend had deceived him. He shook his head, his stomach grumbling. Since they had been friends for so long, Tom had always had complete faith in him. He didn't see why Mark would sacrifice his livelihood and maybe his life to salvage his faltering business. Tom began to reflect on all of the moments he and Mark had spent together over the years, the jokes, the drinks, and the shared adventures. It was a terrible discovery for him to learn that he didn't know Mark as well as he thought he did. Tom couldn't help but worry how many other individuals in his life were keeping secrets and betraying him.

Tom couldn’t help but reflect on how easily he had been duped as Alexei was being brought away. He was aware that he would never again be able to trust anyone.
