A Coat To Suit The Weather
Microfiction
Looking out my window, I try to decipher what the temperature will be today.
Will I need a zip-up sweatshirt so I can feel cozy?
A heavy, waterproof jacket to protect me from the rain?
Or a lightweight coat for sunny yet cool air?
The sky is mostly clear, with a few small clouds floating on by. But looks can be deceiving, especially when it comes to the weather.
Too bad I'm still in my pajamas, or else I'd just step onto my front porch and test the air.
But the neighbors across the street constantly scour for any piece of gossip to share with their friends over coffee and baked goods, and that's the last thing I need.
So, after a quick wash and rinse, I chance it and step into my closet.
I scan the plethora of clothes attached to hangers or folded in drawers. Decisions, decisions.
I end up choosing a blue T-shirt, black leggings with pockets, and my black and white skater shoes, tying a hoodie around my waist.
I walk back into the living room, my right hand gripping the metal doorknob.
I twist it, hearing the familiar click, and push it open, bracing for whatever awaits me.
