"Jason?"
"Yes! Wait! Who are you? What's going on?"
"That's not important. What is important is that we are finally connected."
"Connected? What? Wait. What the fuck is going on?"
Ella didn't want to lift her head. She did not want to alert Him to anything different but she was disoriented. She had to concentrate.
"Jason. I need you to be quiet. I cannot stress the urgency of this enough. If you draw attention to us, we may die. Please. For both our sakes. Please."
Jason was about to say something more and then he thought about all the weirdness and how he currently had no idea where he was and how it all aligned with this woman manacled to a chair and he decided wisely to shut up. He wasn't happy but fear decreed caution and he always listened to fear's fanfare.
There was silence. Good. He was compliant at least. Or had he gone? No. Jason was still there but he was smarting. She could ignore that.
It was fair to say that she had not been expecting this. She had expected to be connected to Jason, yes, that was what she had wanted but she had imagined some sort of remote signal from him that she could tune into and out of, as required. But this...
She focused. She needed to know: was he physically here with her or was he just with her, in her consciousness?
She imagined a tunnel to shut out everything else, like looking down a telescope to position her mind solely on one thing. She visualised Jason as she had last seen him in the café. He wasn't there. She visualised him standing next to her in her chair. He wasn't there.
She was going to have to try something different. Mind Swirl. It depleted her energy but what else? She had to drift. Gone was the tunnel as her mind expanded...images moving...consciousness clearing...mind mist lifting...Jason there...could sense him...not solid...but he was there...definitely in the room with her...but not physically...which would mean that he was what? A ghost?
She zoomed in on this guess. It was wrong. Jason was alive.
But he was nowhere to be seen.
