Weekend Getaway
"We drove up the snowy, winding road towards the cozy A-frame cabin." She sighed, remembering the last time that she saw Issac alive. "It was so cold that our fingers nearly froze in our gloves. We were wearing two pair of pants, snow boots, and thick fur coats." Phoebe looked around her therapist's office and stared at the Peace Lily on her desk. It was growing out of a vase full of water, with a betta fish swimming around in the vase. For a moment, she thought about how the fish must feel in that vase, not being able to swim outside of it. She turned back to Sandy and continued her story. "He wanted to ride the snow mobile, but I refused and went inside by the fireplace to warm up." Tears started to form in the corners of her eyes. "I should have made him stay with me, but he was stubborn and always done what he wanted to do."

HALLOWEEN NIGHT We drove up the snowy, winding road towards the cozy A-frame cabin. It was pretty dark already. Riley had wanted to wait until all the trick-or-treaters were done before leaving for the weekend getaway. She had told me in that no-nonsense tone, 'Tina - We loved Halloween as kids, and there is no way we are leaving before every last candy has gone.'

Water's Weight. Runner-Up in Weekend Getaway Challenge.
We drove up the snowy, winding road towards the cozy A-frame cabin. In silence, for the most part. Me, with both hands on the wheel. Her, in the passenger seat with her nose buried in a book, tightly bundled up in scarf and toque and feather-filled jacket.

The Seventeenth Summer (Ch 4)
Chapter 4 The boys enjoyed their morning with Jake, who produced the promised beers, which he and Nate sipped, while Danny selected a Coca-Cola. They were given a good look at the car, got to stick their head under the bonnet and inspect the 253v-8 motor and all its chromed bits and bobs, sit behind the wheel in the soft bucket seats with the motor purring, then put their foot down hard on the accelerator, which deafened them. The plumes of dust billowing out from behind the van, obviously churned up by the twin downward curved chrome exhausts, was icing on the cake.

Ages Past
Kha, Head Archeologist of Ptolomy IV, carefully brushed off the stone tablet he had just unearthed, engraved with heiratic script. Nearby, a Blot of Scribes sat under a shade, recording the findings in both Egyptian and Greek, to be archived and studied in the Great Library at Alexandria. More, armed with wax tablets and styles rather than papyrus and brushes, were scattered around the dig site, taking notes as the scientists dictated.

Far From Home
The air was heady with the subtle incense of wisteria after rain. Other flowers were mixed in with the wisteria, and unfamiliar scents that Thomas supposed were unique to country living. About the only thing truly familiar was the noise and smoke of the train engine as it chugged along, carriages crammed full of children being sent away from London to the relative safety of the countryside.
