Dragons Ascent
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. Their numbers having boomed, from practically extinct to thriving, in the past five years. When the pythoness Mabegold had risen to High Witch she had banned the slaughter of dragons and other such creatures, on penalty of death. What was a popular decision at the time, was now a source of contention for her subjects as they negotiated a new lifestyle among predators. As I stood on the precipice of the valley entrance and looked down, I had to agree that life was getting dangerous.

The Valley of the Pionia Tirakian
There weren’t always dragons in the valley… that’s what the elders tell us. The elders have been around Pionia Valley for hundreds of years. They tell us stories of a time when there were tall buildings and things called automobiles. People did not believe in magic or dragons, unicorns or fairies. They flew in aero planes, not on the backs of dragons or unicorns. People did not have wings or do spells. My favorite is the story about when the dragons appeared, and magic took over the world. The elder was telling this story now, as we listened intently.

The Beat of Leathery Wings
“There weren't always dragons in the Valley,” this being said by our village Elder Everwind, “Was it not that long ago that we thought them only as legends of the old ages?” He looked about the semi-dark of the tent interior, at the worried faces of the village elders. We were convened in emergency council to address the coming of the dragons. The council was attended by the elders of all of the families in the center house, a large tent structure used for village functions and meetings. Torches lit the darkness, casting warm light across the worn faces of the elders as they engaged in a contentious discussion. There was much disagreement over what course to take in dealing with the threat of dragons. Our village mage Maythorn was being interrogated by several elders, who seem to regard her as something of a major Wizard, mostly due to her being adept at the healing arts. She is yet wise and honest and can debate with the best of us, but she was no Wizard.

Immortal Bonds
Mycaelus' body stood, it's natural golden hue glowing against the setting sun. It was a beautiful backdrop to grace the grisly scene of the dead whose strewn parts rest stop the dusty, desert plateau. Across from him stood a figure with deep red skin, a cruel and mischievous smile on his face. The two were both covered in bruises, blood, cuts, burns, and a litany of other forms of damage. Neither of the two showed it.

Hellheart
To attend the Arcane Academy of Darien was a great honour for anyone with magical talent; but to be accepted to become a Master of the Academy was an opportunity very few individuals would ever achieve. Following her research into the School of Abjuration and Protection, Maia became one of the foremost practitioners of the art. By the age of twenty she had been leading lectures on the subject and the channelling of magic as a form of defence. Her students would talk of how her classes involved bolts of fire being thrown at students, or field trips to some of the harsher environments on Aerth to practice defending against the elements.
