The Dragons of Arveross Valley
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. A century ago, they had lived in the mountains, guarding their nests full of treasure. At least that's what the history texts said. Not many people who had ventured into the peaks survived the trip. It wasn't certain whether they had perished at the hands, or rather, the talons of dragons or if the harsh conditions of the towering tors had been the cause. Any treasure the dragons may have accrued was likely long gone, buried beneath the rubble of what used to be colossal peaks.

Millennial Judgement
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Yet now they come to cast judgement over the denizens of Ravenwood. At the end of every millennia the realms of the divine and demonic invade the world. Only to leave once one side has been pushed back to their realm. This event brings about a new millennia where Mankind gets time to choose their side. The eyes of all hold signs of one's alignment. Therefore few may hide their heart from another. Those whose hearts lay in deceit, domination, or any manner of Abysmal virtue their eyes begin with touches of darkness. As one becomes more engulfed so do their eyes begin to fill until the whole turns black and the iris runs red. To those of Celestial favor a golden iris will manifest. A sign to all of their selfless hearts and benevolent intentions. Celestial favor is harder to attain; one can seem to be selfless, honest, suffering long for the Celestial virtues before being granted the mark. Though rare during the Millennial Cycle some attain the favor of an alignment so great they become an embodiment of that realm. These now ageless beings are granted miraculous power. Celestial Ascended attain silver or white hair yet maintain the body of mankind whereas Abysmal favor changes the body to better express the corruption they are engulfed in. This cycle nears its end and both sides seek to prepare the souls of those that lay in the middle.. Or in the extermination of those that will not be swayed..

There weren’t always dragons in the valley. That’s the truth. Dola says that there weren’t always people in the valley either, and that maybe the dragons have a better claim on the place than we do. The Dragon's Wave
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Professor Burns read the words on a three-by-five card as he prepared to give a speech to students. As a professor of archaeology, Jason Burns still found the new normal hard to believe.

Goddess of the Night
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley, and this isn’t the first time we are meeting; in fact, we’ve met many times before throughout your cardinal life. Our first meeting was when you were a small barefoot child. I whispered the words of wisdom and power into your ear as you concocted potions of blades of soft grass and clear water. As you grew older, my whispers could not be heard over the noise of your evolving mind, so I resorted to other forms of communication. We met that moonless night you felt something in your stomach that told you to walk a bit faster. We met again when you looked up at the star-painted sky and shared that you felt alone. We’ve met countless times in your deepest dreams and occasionally as you woke to moving shadows on the walls of your bedroom. You see, we know one another and with intimacy, but let me introduce myself once more. My name is Hecate, and I am the goddess.

Where Dragons Dwell
"There weren't always dragons in the Valley," the village headman revealed. The large, opulent chair he sat in creaked in complaint as he leant back, suggesting it was every bit as old as the person that sat in it. Thick legs swung up and over the edge of the large oak desk dominating the small office, and the heels of well-used, black leather boots came to rest upon its surface. The headman lifted his left hand and pinched a scruffy grey beard between fat thumb and index finger, the ring finger having been taken off behind the knuckle and reduced to a badly-healed stump. The wrinkles around his eyes deepened as deep thought passed behind them. "I seem to remember a time when nothing bigger than a cow could be found down there, but when Hellsmouth reminded us how it got its name more than dragons sought escape from the mountain's fiery temper."

The fluttering book
“There weren’t always dragons in the valley,” my mom said looking at me with sad eyes as she closed the book, kissed me on the cheek and said “good night.” I want her to continue on but it’s hard for her. When we got to that part of the story she always does the same thing.
