Beyond - Chapter 1
Have you ever wondered how some writers can come up with their stories? For example, how did J. R. R. Tolkien create Middle Earth? How did C. S. Lewis tell the tales of Narnia? How did G. R. R. Martin express so much emotion in Westeros? And how were J. K. Rowling's characters so real? What if they were all real and these writers were retelling their real adventures but we, being so naïve, believe them to be fiction? This is what we now realize at least. After all, we had an adventure like theirs as well. And I will attempt to retell this story to encourage you to tell yours, no matter how unbelievable it may seem.

Hearth and Guidance
The sound of children gathered around a glorious campfire echoed in the starry night. One could sense their excitement as they sat within earshot of a blind old man who smiled at the fire as if looking at a loved one. Everyone, even adults, rallied around, knowing their time with this wise grandfather figure was limited. Not because they were worried he would pass away (although, because of his long beard, withering strength, and an overall sense of eternal peace, some did genuinely believe it was past his eternal bedtime) but because he came but once a year to this small village deep in the forest, miles away from the nearest kingdom and only told one story before picking up his humble belongings and moving on. He had been doing this for about a decade now, every year without fault or pause, he rested around the fire on the eve of Spring, always with a new story to tell. Because of this routine, the kids grew up hearing his fantastical stories once a year, yearning for more and had affectionally nicknamed him Grampa Tales.

Beyond
Notes for the readers: This is a prologue for an idea of a story I have had in my head for a long time. There's still a lot of things I need to work on since it's my first time putting it on paper and this is a story I've honestly had with me for many years so there's definitely a lot of polishing to be done! Characters and writing that needs maturing. The title is still a work in progress, though, and might change as the story progresses. I'm hoping that I will be able to continue this as an actual story, chapters and all, and post them here for anyone to read, comment, and hopefully help me build this up. I do appreciate input as this is my first time doing something like this. Thank you for taking time to read this!

Charta et Chao
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. I know. That one is definitely on me. My bad. Yesterday’s inconveniences may be partially my fault. In my defense, when I first created them, they were cute and tiny babies, like myself, and I obviously didn’t know better. I was barely 10! How was I supposed to know 12 years later they would grow into these gargantuan uncontrollable flying flamethrowers? Besides, you HAVE to look at the bright side! Tourism in the Valley has never been better. I mean, what other town in the world has a sign that reads “Human population: 45,000. Dragon population: 2.” Thanks to the dragons, we had an influx of people wanting to move nearby which stimulated the economy of the town. A lot of jobs opened up, we needed more construction workers than ever. Even our college mascot is way cooler now. “Nevada Valley’s Dragons” instead of the “Nevada Valley’s Tumbleweeds” (remember that?). Point is, it’s not ALL that bad.
