Dancing Among The Stars
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. Many years ago, the entire land was a wasteland, devoid of life of any type. Then came the Great One, the magic user who reshaped the lands, who rebuilt a magical kingdom for those who had lived in fear to come and be free. The dragons soon followed, sworn protectors of the realm, aiding the magical rulers, tying themselves tightly to the throne of the small valley kingdom, making it a true power. Then things in the world started to change, and the Great One, in all his wisdom, cast one final spell. The spell that separated the valley realm from the rest of the world, making people forget about them, as magic faded away from everywhere else, growing stronger and more concentrated over time in the small valley.

Fire Song
Chapter One There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. We are beings of air and fire, of sky and mountain. Our hearts sing with the song of the breeze and our minds dream in the shapes of the clouds. We had wings that let us soar into the heavens, into eternity, into freedom.

The Valley of Kings
"There weren't always dragons in the Valley... It was once a peaceful land filled with lush forests and freshwater streams. People from the surrounding villages used to gather near the river to fish and enjoy the Valley's beauty. It was a peaceful time... But nothing lasts forever.

The Mirage
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. In fact, in these days dragons rarely wandered close to mankind at all. Mankind being a fearful and ignorant race had nearly destroyed the entire species from the known world. Dragons were mostly for tall tales to scare the naive peasants into servitude or were used as excuses for when plans fell through, or crops failed, or invincible armies were defeated. No one took them seriously, even though the reality was that dragons were in fact real. Their role now was borderline religious in nature, shrouded in superstition and misunderstanding. Much of what dragons were capable of was labeled with the broad term 'magic' and left at that. Few tried to understand their ways, even fewer had ever endeavored to seek dragons out or document their behaviors. Only one man in the Westlands was known to study them, and he too tried not to stray too close to the dealings of mankind.

The Valley of Fire
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. I would know. I grew up there. Before they came, the valley was filled with fairies dancing on the petals of morning glories that held the shades of sunset. A creek twisted through the valley, vibrant blue water filled with colorful stones and fish that would fly through the air. Stags would graze in the tall emerald grasses. Rabbits would chase the colorful butterflies that would hatch in spring. The entire valley was lined with tall pine trees that kissed the clouds. Their roots broke from the ground giving way to intricate patterns on the forest floor. And in the morning mist would emerge from the forest and fill the valley. I still remember it twirling around my fingers. It would dance with me and then leave when the sun broke beyond the mountains. The valley was full of wondrous life and unfathomable magic.

Bleeding Red
As I was being dragged onto the plastic cover everything faded and I awoke to a dark eerie sky. I was unaware of where I was or who I became. All I knew was that I was surrounded by damp brick that stretched up to the starless night sky. I was laying on the ground as if I had fallen from the heavens. My body twisted and turned while pain blossomed in every joint. I turned my head and looked towards the light and saw that I was in an alley and I didn’t live in this city. And this city was unlike any I have ever heard.

Prologue - Birth and Death
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. That was my fault. Unearthing them from their slumber. We stood at the peak of the Valley, the tower standing tall behind us, missing a piece of itself, snug in my pocket. I could feel its charge burning a thin hole in my pants. My right hand was singed and bloodied but there would be no pain soon because something worse was incoming. In the distance, deep inside Drachtal Valley, we could see home, our small village tucked away in peace. They were lucky to have those brief moments of silence—of ignorance. How I envied them.

Artist's Scope
There weren't always dragons in the Valley… Helios was beautiful with crisp air and partly sunny skies. The sun peeked through heavy grey clouds as they swept over the afternoon sky. For Tobias Morana, the Chancellor's son, the day shone brighter than most. The citizens crowded the square for an announcement that could change history.

The Death of Our Valley
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. When I was a child, the trees told stories of the Valley thousands of years ago. They told us of the times when the Valley was peaceful, alive. The Valley they knew seems so far away now. My childhood days seem so far away now. The trees tell no stories these days, the wind dances with no leaves.

"There weren't always dragons in the valley" my grandfather lamented. When his dementia worsened, he lost touch with reality. He told these outrageous stories. At first we thought he was just passing the time, but we quickly realized that he believed every bit of it. It absolutely gutted me to see his mind decay like that. For him, a world where he's endangered by dragons, is the world he lives in. To him, this was reality.
