The old man
He would sit on the old rickety porch every morning whenever a bit of sun peeked from the overcast sky. Most other days he just sat by the window and stared out at the almost invisible roadway, rendered unrecognizable by the sheer volume of snow which just kept falling. The stark bare trees seemed to mimic his life, mocking his solitude.

Blue Bear No More
Thump. The sound as I hit the road. I had felt a massive gust of air than the hard, unforgiving feel of the bitumen road of the highway. I felt discarded. Traffic whizzed past me, oblivious to my plight. My owner now far away down the long highway, no doubt upset, but didn't return. What would become of me now? That was the question.

Her days were consumed by the pursuit of a breakthrough creation that would revolutionize the way people perceived time. Amelia toiled tirelessly in her cluttered workshop, fueled by a fervent desire to unlock the secrets of temporal manipulation. Late one stormy night, as thunder rumbled ominously, she stumbled upon an ancient device hidden within the depths of her grandfather's journals. The device, adorned with ornate engravings, held the power to control time itself. Driven by curiosity and a thirst for discovery, Amelia meticulously studied the intricate mechanics of the mysterious artifact. Days turned into nights, and her once orderly life became entangled in the complexities of temporal experimentation. The city, unaware of the impending upheaval, continued its relentless pace, oblivious to the impending shift in its temporal fabric. As Amelia delved deeper into the secrets of the time-manipulating device, she began to unravel the consequences of her actions. The line between past, present, and future blurred, and Eldoria became a kaleidoscope of conflicting timelines. The once harmonious city plunged into chaos as events unfolded in unpredictable sequences. Realizing the gravity of her discovery, Amelia embarked on a race against time to restore order. With each twist of the temporal dial, she encountered alternate versions of herself and the world around her. The concept of "time is gold" took on a literal meaning as the city's resources became scarce, and the once-thriving economy crumbled. In her quest for redemption, Amelia faced moral dilemmas, sacrificing personal relationships and witnessing the consequences of her temporal meddling. As the city teetered on the brink of collapse, she finally devised a solution – a delicate balance that would reset the timeline and mend the fabric of Eldoria. With a deep breath, Amelia turned the ancient dial one last time, unleashing a wave of energy that swept across the city. The chaotic timelines converged into a singular path, and Eldoria began to rebuild itself. The once frenetic pace of life slowed, and a newfound appreciation for the preciousness of time emerged. Amelia, now weary but wiser, observed the transformed city. The phrase "time is gold" echoed in her mind, not as a pursuit of material wealth, but as a reminder of the invaluable moments that make life truly rich. In the end, Eldoria stood as a testament to the delicate balance between ambition and the fleeting nature of time.

Lives of Unliving Things
A careless hand tosses you in with the other toys; to it, you are but one thing out of many it cannot bear to see in the bedroom now-childless. You watch paralyzed as the corners of the cardboard box fold in on each other, reduce the lovely lamplight to a faint sliver. You’re entombed there, alongside little plastic army men and the thick books Best Friend would sound aloud to you and Mom. The thinner books are in another box; Best Friend would whisper them quietly to you by flashlight some nights, before gripping you to his chest and falling gently asleep. You’d sleep, too, sometimes, as well as a sleepless thing could sleep.

Without Her, I Am Lost
In the beginning, it was dark and snug. I liked it, I think. I had nothing to compare it to. All there was, was Her. Her footsteps were my cradle, the rhythm and rush of her blood my lullaby. I knew the scent and hot silk of her as my own Self. She surrounded me, protected me, defined me. Poured herself into me to grow me from nearly nothing. Cell by cell. Inch by inch.
