Adventure
Finding home
No one would have predicted things would turn out this way. Years of pollution and toxic waste turning animals into vile, vicious creatures. Many of us took to the sea in order to survive while the braver or probably more reckless people stayed to fight. My mother was among those brave souls. I don't know much about my mother. She put me on a ship with my aunt when I was only five, and now the only thing I have to remember her by is her golden heart locket. It's been ten years since the fight ended and if not for the locket I surely would have forgotten my mother's face by now. Only now are we risking heading back to the shore to try and salvage what is left of our old lives.

The Heart’s Truth
My heart pounded in my ears as I reached the top of the staircase. I held my breath and listened for any movement behind me. I did not think I was being followed, but it was only a matter of time before the Council would come searching for me. “This is not a kingdom I want any part in ruling,” I thought to myself. Looking over my shoulder into the familiar shadows below, the fear I felt was replaced with anger. The network of caverns and tunnels that I had always known as “home”, now seemed nothing more than a glorified dungeon. I took in a deep breath and allowed that anger to fuel my actions. The air felt heavy as I slid through the old, barracaded passage to my left and kept moving through the darkness as quietly as possible.

SKYLANDERS
REPORT FROM SILVERWING: “We’re the good guys. Our ancestors went above and beyond the call of duty to battle an intergalactic mob boss. That heritage makes us VALIANT! The denizens of Sixth Earth trust our authority for the most part. The Underdwellers still require our persuasion; and the Aquatitans, despite our best bids for their support, have not chosen aside. The Aquatitans have yet to choose to be our allies in a benevolent rule over Sixth Earth; I have not lost enough hope to declare them our enemies. Yet.

ZOE'S SALVATION
Zoe and Adam were running for their lives. Adam was slightly ahead when the blast from a zapper hit him square in the back, instantly turning his whole being into a vaporized red mist that Zoe ran straight through. Zigzagging towards a big tree, she had barely tossed her body encased with red slime behind it, when the zapper fired again. The blast hit the tree and as a sharp chunk of wood summersaulted past her head, she could feel it vibrating from the impact. As the tree began breaking apart, she slid down the trunk and slithered through the tall grass on her belly like a snake towards some huge boulders. Quickly crawling behind the rocky barrier, the zapper fired again, a huge hole appearing in the ground where she had just been. Quickly scanning her immediate area, realizing she was now cornered, the only option remaining to escape the WGOP (World Government Official Police or Gops) was jumping off the high, rocky cliff into the river below that was churning through the rapids. She had to make up her mind quickly since her enemies would be flanking her position as she waited—to die in the river or die from a zapper blast—they weren’t taking prisoners.

The Adventures of Scallywag the Sea Dog, Part 3
VII I stood at the bow of The Dolphin, my front paws on the gunwale, and my nose poked out underneath the railing. After a year as a Sea Dog, I had concluded that this was a perfect day. Mostly blue skies. Puffy clouds. And wind. Lots of wind, that curled waves into foamy whitecaps. The bow of The Dolphin would lunge up over the crest of a wave, then slam down into the trough, sending a wash of seawater over the railing. The spray drenched me, filling my nose with the sweet smell of brine, burning my eyes for a brief moment, and crusting my coat with salt. A landlubber might find this nauseating, but a Sea Dog loves a day like this. It made me feel strong. It gave me purpose. It made me feel alive.
