"Seized? How?!"

Pi's elf-like face was a mix of shock and grief. I wondered at their capacity for emotion, still so immense after all we'd seen. It filled me with... something. Pity? Envy? They ran a tattooed hand through their already tousled mop-top (the mischievous wisps of which were an electrifying periwinkle blue today) and stared at the boarded up building that had evolved from a part-time job into our second home: Dean's Video by day, Reparaction Now! by night. We thought we were changing the world. We must've been... If we hadn't, Dean's would probably still be here.

The sun-bleached awning was weather-torn and ragged, and the walls were a motley collage of graffiti, half-peeled posters, and Proprietor Advisories. The logo Pi had spray-painted onto the window, a wingless caduceus, had been plastered over with recruitment posters for the Defense-Offensive Assimilation Corp.

Subtle, I thought, before answering.

"Apparently the D. O. A. have deemed it a 'Potential Outbreak Source' ".

Pi lit a cigarette. I followed suit.

"Takes a POS to know a POS, I gue-"

"Careful" I hissed, as a 3-man bulletproof wall of navy-blue marched past, forcing us under the awning to make room. One of the Defenders looked me up and down, either out of condemnation or curiosity. When it's hard to tell, it's usually both... The deeper the closet, the stronger the urge.

"There's a brewery by the tracks with a vacant office space upstairs. The owner's an ally."

"That's what you said about Dean".
