If He had been a Perceptive, He would have known that there had been a shift; He would have known that a new player had been brought into His game; He would have known that He was no longer the one who held all the power.

*

"Anna?"

Malcolm was trying to reach his daughter. He was watching her as she explored who knows what? She'd tried to explain about her gift but it had all seemed, to a scientist, too vague for him to grasp. But he knew that he had to protect it as he had seen how He had wanted it.

He would not have his daughter.

When Malcolm had run, his thoughts had been on saving himself. He knew about the other Perceptives. He knew about the games He liked to play to test them. Malcolm had done nothing to help them. His only hope had been to survive and protect himself and Anna. He had no regrets about that. Guilt, yes, but regrets, no. Here, he got to live to fight. If he'd have stayed...it didn't bear thinking about.

Now, he was trying to read Anna's face. Usually, there was a passivity to it as she let information that she was encountering course through her but today, there were flickers of emotion on her face - fright, anger, laughter, excitement.

Something was different alright.

*

The door blew apart and they were running. There was a roar behind them, something feral but Ella and Jason didn't turn their heads.

*

Anna could see everything. It was sharp and focused. Part of her was concerned at what could be causing this enhancement but when she saw Him being thwarted, she was suffused with warmth and hope. She could see Ella and she could see a mystery figure with her, like a shadow but nothing sinister. It was like he was there but not there. Weird.

It was him causing this, this mystery man.

*

The Master's mother was waiting patiently. When she heard thudding on the stairs, she stood and moved to a place by the door. She took a knitting needle and held it behind her back.

She would not give in without a fight.

I hope it's The Master on the stairs. Otherwise, we're going to see how effective a knitting needle is as a weapon in the hand of an old woman.

Ooooh! The mother is prepared to fight! I like it! Loved that we got a little more from Malcom and Anna while still keeping tabs on the others! Nicely done, Rachel!

Knitting needles can be a nasty weapon if used correctly. I'm still following when possible. Keep the story going!

  • I agree with Caroline… it was The Master, on The Stairs with His Boots! Exciting times! I hope Anna is able to help out Ella & Jason to throw another spanner in His works😳.

I guess I need to start at the beginning, this sounds exciting, like a movie being played out. Knitting needles...interesting.
