chap 1: periwinkle and her sisters.

periwinkle lives with her stepmother. no one knows her mother's whereabouts. she thinks she likes her stepmother but it's always her father she thinks about. periwinkle goes to school. middle school to be exact. she loves getting good grades. it cheers her up. her two sisters always like hanging out with her except greeny. she likes adult time with her stepmother who has half of her body paralyzed. the youngest one is attached to the radio. she knows how to find every song on earth. no one knows how she does it. she could sit all day with her radio. "have you heard this song before?" said yellowy. "no, I've never heard it before. you impress me every time you sing. I don't know how you know the lyrics." said periwinkle. "get ready to eat." said, greeny. nana cooked lasagna that day. it's periwinkle's favorite food. " lasagna today! so delicious! eureka! lasagna makes us as happy as a fat kid in a candy store." said periwinkle. "you know every saying ever." said yellowy. periwinkle liked thinking alone at the top of the building where they live. she shared her room with her sisters. she absolutely had to get away for a few. she knew she loved her sisters, but there was always something in the back of her head that said she enjoyed solitude. "I have to split. don't look for me for about an hour. i'm going to my secret spot." said periwinkle. "don't get lost. said nana winking. she gathered her notepad and headed on to the top of the building . she kept her stuffsies up there. she finds happiness everytime she's there. her usual "flower that doesn't die" kept blooming. it's a miracle, she always says every time she sees it. her mirror is good for her favorite picture. she is afraid of mirrors so she uses a picture of a couple she found in nana's room. she tries and tries to look at herself in the mirror every time but she's afraid. she keeps pulling the picture back and forth. maybe she's not ready to see herself. her favorite pen is there. she changes the placement a lot. it helps her grab ideas from thin air. she grabbed her journal and wrote " I love my sisters the giant creature greeny is my favorite sports team cheerleader. she loves cheering at baseball games she really gets into her cheers, I just wish one of those players would give her a hot dog. she blows kisses in the air. she is with nana too much. she is really strong and makes everyone feel comfortable. she can get loud when she's in the kitchen. the tiniest creature is yellowy she knows everything about music. she gave me a tape once. she's so silly. I don't have a radio to listen to it. she made me hear a song once and then she gave it to me. I sat there perplexed and then I took it up to the top. yellowy always makes me laugh about nothing we understand each other sometimes. she's the craziest one. she bursts into singing all the time. it's an unstoppable force. she's too much for my secret hiding spot. I like my sisters but not enough to take them to the top of the building. that's where I write and let everything out. she might take a special someone there one day she thought.

chap 2: out and about.

periwinkle thought of going out to catch a musical. all that twirling invited more dancing. she wanted to see how the pros do it. so off she went to invite her sisters. nana loved them too much to say no to an outing like that. periwinkle gave yellowy the dress and greeny wore a skirt. " I like dressing like a man. it makes me cry less about everything." said periwinkle. she wore overalls and a hat. she didn't care about strange looks at this venue. she wanted to enjoy the show. " I don't like when you don't come to me first with your outfit ideas." said greeny. "nana gave you a dress." " I gave it to yellowy." thought she looked better in it. " she will wear it but first come to me." said greeny. periwinkle cried for two hours straight to go to this musical dressed however she wanted to dress. greeny was mad the whole night. she didn't enjoyed the show. she was preoccupied with periwinkle. yellowy made it better by cheering with the crowd. they saw a lot of costumes and gorgeous people dancing around. she knew she was going to write about this excellent night. she got away with wearing whatever she wanted through a lot of convincing. when they got back periwinkle couldn't sleep. she was too excited about what she saw. she wrote all night about everything.

chap 3: mr. green.

the next day periwinkle woke up yellowy to go to school. greeny desn't go to school. she was too busy with nana. periwinkle liked sitting by the front of the class. she loved studying the teacher. mr. green liked her. she was a curious head or how the teacher liked to put it: excellent-sitter-in-class-who-pays-attention-and-figures-everything-out. she liked mr. green I guess. he explained everything "just so." that day in class she was lost in thought until a piece of paper hit her in the arm. she looked around to see who did it and she catched the eyes that were looking at her. she said nothing and opened the paper. it said "i'm better than you." and she crushed the paper in the desk. she wasn't able to think right in class that day. this boy left a lot to the imagination. why did he write that to her? does he know me? she had to gather every strength she had to figure out a way to prove him wrong. that day she sat alone at the lunch table. the apple wasn't tasting good. the boy sat next to her she was surprised and annoyed at the same time. "so mr. gree likes you." he said. "I guess." she shrugged. "why are you eating alone?" " I was waiting for my sister." yellowy approached the table. "who is that?" "a class mate." "come sit with us." "no, thanks, we like eating together, maybe some other time." said periwinkle. "see you around." said Brooklyn as he got up going back to the table where his friends were. periwinkle kept enjoying her lunch with yellowy. " I feel weird without my radio." "remember a good song and sing it in your head...not out loud I don't like your voice...haha...i'm just kidding." said periwinkle. "I know which one." so she sat there singing "she loves you yeah yeah yeah. "so I guess it's time to go back to class. "I feel like listening to mr. green today" said periwinkle. "see you after class." she went into class and saw the boy. they looked at each other without wanting to. "kids I have an assignment that is to be completed before summer break. all of you have to write a short story, and present it in class." said green. which one of you is going to impress me so I can take it to the nobel prize of amazingness? Brooklyn and periwinkle looked at each other. Brooklyn raised his hand periwinkle followed. only two of you are competing? come on people we can do better. "the nobel prize is too much mr. green no one's going to win this prize." said the boy with the hat. everyone argued while periwinkle got busy coming up with ideas for an amazing short story. someone in the back yelled. "you will never win Brooklyn I will." everyone laughed.

chap 4: the man with papers.

the next day periwinkle thought of walking around the city with her sisters. she begged them to come with her. it's not always easy to have them together. periwinkle and her sisters got ready to walk and walk without a specific place to go. they live in Miami so hanging around in the city is really fun. they left around noon after breakfast. it's a Saturday and there's so much to see...where are all of these events where people hang out? " let's buy the newspaper and find out." said greeny. or we could go to a library and figure it out through the internet. " I know I sound bad to the both of you, but I want to walk around and see what we find." said periwinkle. they both rolled their eyes "well going somewhere specific sounds better." said greeny. "well, alright then. " so they got on the internet and found a book store and off they went. periwinkle felt pressured to find that specific place to hang out. periwinkle stared at greeny and yellowy's shoes. they looked extra amazing today. greeny's shoes have cushiony heels. she likes comfort in a lady like way. yellowy's shoes are sporty and comfortable too. periwinkle wore tennis shoes. they are red. their first stop is at a coffee shop. "I love chai tea. maybe they have it here." said yellowy. " I want green tea." said periwinkle. greeny got water. they sat down and started giggling about not knowing how to get to the book shop. brooklyn walked in getting coffee. periwinkle and brooklyn locked eyes. periwinkle kept drinking green tea so as to avoid him completely. brooklyn approached them. "hey periwinkle, lovely to see you around here. what are you all up to?" said brooklyn. "oh hey, we're just going to hang out by the book store. you?" asked periwinkle. "i'm just getting coffee. mind if I tag along?" asked brooklyn. "oh sure, you can come with us." said periwinkle. so they all got up and walked towards the book shop. they walked in, just browsing around. the place was full of papers and books. they found the owner who greeted them as they looked on. "can you recommend a good book?" asked periwinkle giggling. "wow, you have so many books in here. i don't know how you don't get lost." said yellowy. "well, i just go over everything daily that way don't forget what i have." the owner told yellowy then went with periwinkle. "i might have something you will like." periwinkle and brooklyn walked together towards the fiction section and went in for the same book touching hands. they felt a connection, but got shy about it. "here it is" said the owner. the title read the blue eagle. "it's about a girl and her pet eagle. i think you'll like it. " said the owner "the title sounds interesting. i'll give it a read." said periwinkle. "we have more titles but this will give you a good introduction to what we offer at the shop. you can come back anytime." said the owner. they left and went back to their homes.

chap 5: the boy.

the boy arrived at his home thinking about periwinkle. he wanted to write a story that would get him the prize that mr. green mentioned in class. he looked for ways to make up a story, but he kept failing. regardless, he wrote what he could. his friend "the boy with the red hat" from the same class came by his place and they came up with ideas for stories and kept adjusting it until they found a topic that interested both of them. they wrote about an alien that finds his way to earth and follows a young boy around giving signs of life on other parts of the universe.

chap 6: in school.

the next day they all went ot school. it was the day they had to present the assignment to get the prize. a few students presented it in front of the class. one kid wrote about his bycicle. another kid wrote about a balloon. when they got to brooklyn, he presented his story and sat down. then it was periwinkle's turn and she talked about her story which was about her granmother having up and downs financially and her granddaughter having to get a job to help pay the rent. she got a job at a large music store. the owner was giving it away because he was growing old so she wanted to stay until he gave it away to her. her grandmother and her talked to the owner. he made it fun and said the best band wins the music store. so she recorded music until she couldn't anymore. she ended up winning the music store after the big competition. everyone cheered in the class because they loved the story. she was really happy and pleased with the response from the class. the teacher gave the prize to periwinkle. going back to her seat she said to brooklyn "you almost beat me. you're story was really good too. i loved it to be honest. want to come to my house after class?" "thanks for the compliment. yes, why not?" after class they went to periwinkle's home.

chap 7: the kiss in the roof.

"would you like to come to the roof with me? i don't take just anyone. you have to be really cool to come up with me." said periwinkle. "what do you have up there?" asked brooklyn. "oh just my writing tools and little trinkets and a large pillow where i can lay. as you can see i love writing." said periwinkle. so up they went. "it's been such a lovely day. i see the sunset sometimes not everytime. i like to wait until it's completely dark and i light a candle to write." said periiwnkle that's when brooklyn stole a kiss. "oh i wasn't expecting that." said periwinkle. "i love you." brooklyn said excited. they both smiled.

the end.
