Must Watch 2023 Summer Romance Anime: My Happy Mariage

My Happy Marriage, a new romantic anime that began streaming weekly on Netflix on July 5th, has already generated a lot of hype. Based on Akumi Agitogi's light novel series, it was turned into a manga and even a live-action film before the Netflix project was revealed. Given the series' caliber, it's no surprise that it's already a fan favorite of the summer 2023 anime season.

The light novel was at first distributed on the Shosetsuka ni Naro site. Fujimi L Bunko later obtained the title in January 2019 and started distributing it with representations by Tsukiho Tsukioka. Yen Press authorized the clever in English, and they depict the story:

Miyo Saimori, who was born without skill into an aristocratic family known for their supernatural prowess, is compelled by her harsh stepmother to live a life of slavery. When Miyo reaches marriageable age, however, her expectations of being whisked away to a better life are dashed when she learns that her fiancé is Kiyoka Kudou, a commander who is rumored to be so cold and cruel that all of his prior would-be brides left their engagements within three days.

Without a place to go back to, Miyo accepts her fate. However, she quickly learns that her pale and attractive future husband is everything but the monster she had anticipated. Both of them understand that the other might be their best chance at finding true love and happiness as they slowly begin to open their hearts to one another.

The anime is just perfect for everyone to watch. Even though young ladies are often the target audience for Shoujo, the majority of excellent Shoujo programs will have a wide appeal. In fact, the genre is perfect for any audience that enjoys a good story because of its concentration on romantic and personal relationships. Fans of popular Shoujo series, particularly those like Fruits Basket, will connect with this series. My Happy Marriage is the ideal replacement for fans of Shoujo and romance equally as that series has lain dormant since the conclusion of the anime in 2021.

People who are unfamiliar with My Happy Marriage might be startled to learn how cruel Miyo's family is to her for silly reasons. Miyo is such a sweet young lady, so it's especially terrible. She has a soft voice and a tendency to apologize (which Kiyoka absolutely despise), but the latter is a result of spending so much time with family members who made fun of her. It is immensely gratifying and cathartic to watch Miyo come to terms with receiving affection from others, including Kiyoka Kudou and her servant Yurie. Miyo is such a simple heroine to root for because of her kind nature and terrible early circumstances.

Kiyoka, Miyo's new husband, seems like your typical Tsundere character. Kiyoka comes out as distant and guarded at first, much to the chagrin of previous fiancés. He is actually reluctant to put his faith in other people since he already knows what drives them—viewers can infer that other ladies were merely pursuing his status and fortune, for example. Once Miyo and the audience get to know him, it becomes obvious that Kiyoka is truly perceptive and considerate, which makes him the ideal partner for the reserved Miyo. After all, even while others were turning a blind eye, he saw indications of her harsh past and sought to build her confidence.

Althought there is a serious plot going on, the anime make sure to have funny moments and succeeded them perfectly. The best friend of Miyo who has an obvious crush on her add a little flavor to her life and lighten her mood.

While it is true that it is too early in a season for fans to form firm opinions, the overall perception is that this show is just as morally upstanding as one could anticipate. There are numerous reviews claiming that even though there will be many tears, they will all be happy ones on the fan communities on MyAnimeList and Reddit.

If you are a purist like me I recommend watching the anime in Japanese with subs in your language. But there are dub available in English. The novel is available in many languages.
