a microfiction story

How could the sun be shining today?

It felt almost blasphemous, irreverent.

This was a time of mourning, a glaring reminder that Tina's selfishness and neglect had dire consequences.

All she'd wanted was to feel the sand between her toes and escape the heat. The lure of cool salt water had beckoned.

What she wouldn't give to go back in time.

And now Smiley was gone for good. There'd never be another like him.

Her heart broke as she looked at the water-logged screen, nausea churning in her belly.

Farewell, my sweet Tamagotchi.

I love these micros with the punchlines at the end. Lol. You had me going for a minute, but then that last line hit😂

  • Oh thank God. I thought it was gonna be a real animal. So does this make me a good person because I have compassion for animals or a bad person because I don't feel emphatic towards the tamagotchi, lol! Loved your story my fear friend!

  • Smiley couldn't swim? I guess that's something Yokoi & Maita overlooked.

Aw, this brought a little tear to my eye; how nostalgic! Poor smiley 🥹 This makes me think how one day we played with him for the last time, sometimes we didn’t even know. You have a way of evoking those emotions, my friend! Amazing work! ❤️

Oh wait... maybe Smiley's a fish Tamagotchi?! We can always hope. That was a fun little trip down memory lane Heather. Nice!

There's a great scene in Green Wing where Caroline drops a Tamagotchi in a glass of wine. The guy had kept it alive for 10 yrs 😅

Lol. Never get them wet. Oh wait, that's another decade.

FFS. haha. I felt every line of this. Until the end. Did the battery run out or did it just...sorta...stop working...like they used to? Very relatable!
